Which shaving soaps have you ACTUALLY used for shower and bath?

Folks,

I'm quite interested in this. I've yet to find bath soaps matching certain colognes or aftershaves; going for the good ole shaving soaps might be an option.

Has anybody used his D.R. Harris Arlington soap or that C&E Nomad for showering? Or even , God forbid, Arko? How's that working out for you?

Cheers,

Whitmore

Sure, if they don't make the cut with a brush I use them in the bath.

VERY expensive research.

They are amazing of course as a bath soap, especially if a guy has dry skin. :thumbup1:

I've used VDH Select (white), and A puck of MWF that smelled as if it had turned.

They do actually make a C&E Nomad bath soap, by the way.

I have used William's as a shower soap and it worked out well, it does not last as long in the shower.

Williams. Usin' it up.

I'm convinced Williams is not a good value. It is just cheap. I have to soften it and use a ton to get a good shave lather.

By comparison the Palmolive stick is a huge value.

Dr Harris, Trumpers, Penhaligons, Floris all have made Bath soaps that match the suite of shaving soaps & creams.

The old Floris tallow bath soaps were the very best.

My wife makes soap, so I'm lucky that I can get just about any scent I want. She's really been outdoing herself lately. She just mailed me a bar of mocha almond that smells amazing. I can't wait to use it. I hate to waste but I don't want a bunch of bars of soap in the shower like there are shaving soaps under the bathroom counter.

this stuff:

Lightsfoot Pure Pine Aromatic Shave Cream Soap... terrible shaving soap, nice shower soap.

I have used a couple as bath soaps. Lothantique Le Collitioneur, it was a pretty poor performer as a bath soap. Some of the Method Shaving cubes, the Sandalwood is a really great bath bar.

There were a couple artisan tallow soaps I tried that wound up in my shower. Typically I'd order them, someone would warn me about them not being great, they'd arrive, I'd be unimpressed, they'd go to the shower. I've also pushed several quite good soaps to a mug I store my "breaking in boar" soaps in. Williams, VDH, a few others. Nothing wrong with them, but they don't meet my high standards for use shaving.

When I did the big move from Cali to GA a few months ago, I had packed the bathroom up completely and needed to shower before the grand voyage. The only thing on hand was a stick of Arko. I threw caution to the wind and it wasnt bad at all. The scent doesnt really stick on you and you feel and smell clean. I use Williams every once and a while as a bath soap, which can dry you out in the winter time, summer is fine.
