Which Merkur?

Ok, I have been DE shaving for about 10 months now. I have several vintage Gillettes, and am selling off some duplicates. I have never tried a Merkur of any kind. What would you recommend? I like my red tip, and my adjustables set on 4. The Techs are too mild. Blade favorites are: Astras, Derbys, and 7 o'clocks. Which should I choose.

I would start with either the Merkur HD 34C or the "barber pole" version with the long handle, the 38C.

you will start with one . . then . . RAD

my first was the futur, then the slant hammer 39c, then the open comb barber pole 12c, then the HD barberpole 38c, and I just received today the Vision 2000, and a muhle R89, got a new, tech and super slim on their way to me as well . . . .

when will the madness end !!!!

HD or 38C and you probably will never use anything else.

I started with a HD (great razor and everyone is right, you may not need another), then a futur (best adjustable out there), then a progress(well, I traded mine for a slant), If you get a HD, Futur, and a slant, you won't need anything else!!

You bet. The 23C is a fantastic barber pole razor. Easy to maintain and load with a blade and a joy to use. Well balanced, highly maneuverable, and fantastic with Crystal blades. It is available brand new for less than $30USD. This is a keeper.
