Which material for pasting?

I currently have a TM latigo with linnen. I don't use the linnen for some reason. Maybe I should. I also have crom ox .5 paste and diamond paste.5 on balsa. I have been reading that the pastes are probably better suited to material, ie hard felt. I was just wondering if the pastes will do the same job on the linnen as the felt, and are either or both better than the balsa?

Tony's linen is very effective without pastes, use it before the leather.

Use the pastes with the balsa you already have once the linen and leather stop providing comfortable shaves.

Use only one or the other of the 2 pastes you have though. After a while you should be able to tell which one works best for the blade(s) that you have.

Better than balsa, definitely. Worth ruining your TM fabric component? Questionable.

So if the answer is,"not worth ruining the TM fabric" is the Hard felt spoken of by Lynn and others the best? I see that TM is still pasting leather, better than felt?

Well, you can buy replacement parts from Tony and they're pretty inexpensive so... my long held belief should probably be amended to: "not worth ruining a beautiful strop set. Its probably worth it to buy a cotton piece from Tony, maybe even a scrap piece and glueing it to some wood and making a pasted strop that way. Definitely cheaper than buying a new felt strop.

Yeah, thats what I'd do. I wouldn't ruin an already existing two piece strop from Tony, but I'd call him up and buy a cotton piece for pasting.
