What's new

which houses would you pay full retail for?

i never see any mugler or guerlain at the grey market dealers where i'm from so i'm kinda willing to pay full retail on those brands. if i shop online (kinda hard to get people to ship things where i live) maybe i can find them at online discounters (can i? i'm checking). of the niche ones i really like annick goutal because their prices are close to designers so i'm thinking if i'm going to pay full retail for a designer might as well buy a niche frag from goutal for the same price. like eau d'hadrian > a*men and they're equal in price where i live. acqua di parma at full price is a little to rich for my blood but i like that house as well.

interested to see your thoughts on this and how you justify some of your purchases.

Haven't done it yet except for one fragrance.....Windsor.
Perhaps L'Occitane's Eav Des Bavx I'd pay retail for, as their retail is reasonable.

I have found Guerlain at discount cologne carts, but only Vetiver and Habit Rouge.

I have purchased Creed at a discount online, but there are so many odd issues with them, I usually opt for full retail. Overall, it's probably safer to buy Creed online from reputable sites than many would have you believe.

Most designer scents I'll get at a price break online, or from one of the various "independent" perfume stores here.

As ADs go, this is a pretty inexpensive one. If there's something new I'm interested in, I'll usually take the full retail plunge. Also, I live in a city filled with brick and mortar distributors that offer almost anything- niche or designer. I can be a bit impulsive.

Many of the niche scents that interest me have little or no "discount" alternatives.

yeah i was going to buy a body shop frag but decided to buy essenza di zegna for the same price. it was like 50-60 off though.

do you ever see AG on discount? also what brands are you speaking of? or are they too many to mention? creed and jo malone pop up quite a bit but i guess creeds are risky and jo malones are still pricey at discount.

I have not, but I haven't looked at much from them.

Probably too numerous to mention, but many that are featured at Lucky Scent. Le Labo, Parfumerie General, Domenico Caraceni, Amouage for example.

I'm probable not the best authority on this since on a whim I can usually sample and/or purchase anything I read about the next day. Lucky Scent's only retail outlet is a half mile from my office and I drive past it twice a day.

Going back to the original question, Knize products are the only ones, I think, I ever paid/pay full retail for, as they are pretty rare to begin with and have not a large dealer system as others have. Even in Germany these products can be found only in a few selected perfume stores.

Crikey, I must be a sucker...I pay retail for all my cologne......except for the misspelled stuff I buy at the train station from that guy....:001_rolle

I love Polo green. I like the Classic Match Wal-Mart sells, it is great for work as it is very subtle. But Beverly Hills Polo Club deodorant sucks, the worst Product, clone or not that I have ever encountered.
I have to cough up the real cash to get the real Polo.

Only those that I really want that I can't find discounted by a trusted vendor. I paid full price for some Amouage in Harrods (still about 30% less that US prices) and a Creed "limited edition". Otherwise, I have always found a discount or bought on a sale forum.

Yes, a bargain. Caron is, too!

Of course, good catch.

As i've been shopping around , Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier seems to be very well priced. I've only sampled a couple of frags, but have been pretty excited about it am looking forward to testing more.

I bought Musc Ravageur by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle at Barneys in New york for full retail. That is only because I couldn't find it anywhere online.

Creed scents are imho liquid gold. I would pay full price for those but I never have :)

Most niche scents are literally impossible, beyond the rare showing on ebay, to find discounted unless you get it 2nd hand.

I don't mind paying full price for Knize. I only have about a few days worth of Sec left and plan on paying the $40 shipping from Berlin for it.

If I could still get Floris Vetiver I'd be happy to pay full retail price. I have paid full retail for Prada Infusion Homme when I couldn't find any cheaper.

Maybe the Serge Lutens non export line bell jar Iris Silver Mist,Frederice Malle Bigarade Concentree/Musc Ravageur, some Profumum and the Guerlain's Double Vanille.
