What's new

Which Hair Clipper you use?

I have a Wahl for home use that i got in Sam´s Club more than five years ago, the blades are still sharp and cut the hair easy. But they already have some rust, change the blades cost more than half the price of a new one.
But the fact is tha despite the rust they do the job without trouble. Whats your opinion?

Easy enough to clean the rust away. I have a Wahl as well. I just keep the blades lubricated and wiped down after use and they seem to stay rust free. I couldn't believe how much the clipper prices had gone up when I went looking for a detail trimmer for my neck last month. I have gotten to that point where my neck hair grows way faster than that on top of my head and, being military, I wanted something to keep my neck hair in check.

As for your Wahls, scrub them down with a wire brush to get the worst of the rust off, spray them with a lubricant/rust preventative, and carry on smartly.

Thanks for the advice Josh.

Get an Oster Classic 76 and one extra blade, buy some plastic guards, blade wash ,clipper oil and grab an old toothbrush.Mine is about 30 years old and still cuts like new,the blades can be sharpened, mine have never seen rust.Buy the best and be done with it.

I use an old set of Jheri Redding "Salon Tested" clippers.

Wire brush and oiling will fix the rust.

But these are clippers not surgical instruments. Some surface rust doesn't affect the cuts.

When buying new, buy industrial quality clippers. Something a salon or a professional pet groomer would use, that will last. Don't use the toys in the beard trimming section of the Wally World on your dome, they will give up the ghost pretty quickly.

Not true. At least in my experience. I've purchased clippers from the big box stores, Wahl's, and have had really good luck. Sure, you can spend an arm and a leg for a pair of Oster 76's (the girl that cuts my hair at this very moment uses them and they are fantastic), but for someone looking for something a big more affordable and easier to maintain, you can find very adequate solutions elsewhere. I highly recommend the Wahl Chrome Pro set. It usually runs around $35, but it's quality all the way. It has their Powerdrive Technology, which gives the motor a bit more torque and cutting power apparently. I love them.

Wahls does make some industrial quality clippers.

However, Wahls ALSO makes some of the TOY clipper versions. You'll find those in the beard trimming section of the Wally World.

I'm not down on Wahls as a brand. Many brands sell across the spectrum of quality, my input stands, buy industrial or pro quality clippers.

My 15 year old Wahl trimmer just keeps on chugging along with regular maintainance. Unfortunately, most Wahl consumer product is no longer made in Sterling IL. Another great company is slowly turning over to the dark side.

I was looking at these the other day and saw they have blades "0000" "000" and so on. What are those numbers telling me? Also how will this be different from my Wahl clippers I have right now?
