What's new

Which Gillette is this?

Can’t recall where I obtained this, and not even sure the handle goes with the head. The only markings are “Trade Gillette Mark” in a flattened diamond and “Made in England” both on the bottom of the plate.

What have I got?

Old type head paired with a Tech handle. A Frankenrazor.

Common as the old handles often cracked.

Hi,

The original handle is made from a sheet of brass rolled into a tube. So, there is a seam, and that is where they crack over time. The ends are a press fit, so they exert a small amount of continual pressure on the tube and the seam. Heating and cooling cycles contribute. So, after 100 years, give or take, and there is the crack.

The Fat Tech handle is pretty close in design to the bar handle Gillette switched to to replace the original style handle on the New. So, the combination ought to do well. :)
