What's new

Which first straight to buy?

I am interested in a replaceable blade straigt. Is the Feather Artist Club the only choice that offers a replaceable blade?

I also see 3 models with approximate prices.

SS- $130
RG-$130 - No folding model?
DX -$250

What the the pros/cons?

Thanks,
Phil

I would go with the the SS. It is the newest model and features very comfortable, redesigned scales (handle) and an improved blade holder, which provides better control of the shave angle. The RG has been discontinued. I would not choose a non-folding Japanese style model, although some prefer this style. I also have a KAI Captain Standard black handle folder, which is also well designed and built, and is very similar to the SS.

Both the Feather and KAI use the same blades. Feather has four blades: the Pro Light (which I do not recommend at all), the Super Pro, which has greater blade exposure and is very aggressive (works if you have a very heavy beard), Professional (recommended), and the ProGuard (also recommended, as it provides greater safety, especially during the learning curve). The two KAI blades are the Captain Titan Mild and Captain Titan Mild ProTouch (guard), both of which are great blades. The KAI blades might be a little smoother than the Feathers, but they all are incredibly sharp and long lasting (perhaps 10-15 shaves per blade).
