which de blades? (In a shavette)

Hi all,

just a quick question.....

does anyone have any recommendations for which blades a newbie ( that would be me ) should be using in a shavette?
i am currently using Astra double edge and Derby. I do however want to make my life at the moment (while learning) as easy as possible.!

My favorite DE blades are Astra SP's.

The best advice I know of is to use your favorite DE blade. That'll keep things the same as you get into that shavette.

Forget about what you've heard or "blades that will kill you" when you first start.
i started with feather de blades and still use them exclusively.....
pick a brand you like and go with it.
you will learn to use whichever you have....

a lot of mixed feelings on blades then. I often do hear that some are harder to use than others.

i have never used a de razor, only cartridge razors, so i don't have a favourite blade at the moment. I am finding the derby extras ok though.

I use Feathers in my DEs but drop to Derby Extras for the shavette. I find a new Feather to be too sharp/harsh for the shavette application. If you have a light enough touch and control along with tough skin you might find otherwise.

I like the red IP's & Gilette Swedes but if you're wanting to find what works best for you get a de sampler pack.

Or just bite the bullett and buy a real straight.

I'll second that vote. They're good quality, all-around blades.

I actually found that blades I really enjoyed in my DEs didn't work so well in the shavette, and vice versa. I think you should experiment to see what work best for you, and keep an open mind about those blades which didn't work well in your DEs. I firmly believe there is no "best" shavette blade, only personal preferences based on a wide variety of factors.
