which brand of sandalwood shaving soap?

hi everyone.. i tried to search this out a bit.. but i love sandalwood.. i mean the real stuff... straight from mysore, india...

which brand of sandalwood has the truest sandalwood scent in the shaving soap?

i wanna be able to smell it still after i shave and wash my face..

currenty i have Edwin jagger sandalwood as it was on the cheaper side.... i like it but its not a true sandalwood smell.. it does last on my face about 4 hours after i shave.. is there something better?

i have seen a alot of different brands but i cannot afford to just buy them all.. i wish i could..

so which one is the perfect sandalwood?

I have not tried many. I have tried C&E, Honey Bee soaps, AOS, and TGQ. I like TGQ a lot, but AOS probably has a truer scent. C&E smells pretty good, but isn't the real thing, and has average performance. Honeybee sandalwood doesn't smell great in my opinion, but I like the performance.

From everything I've heard QED has a great scent (the real thing), but it's not made any more. There was a group buy for sandalwood QED soap, but I think it's over. There may be a few up for sale in the BST forum in the coming weeks.

I think you'll find that for sandalwood, the "truest" non-diluted ones are:

soap: QED
cream: Art of Shaving

That is going to be a problem.

AOS and Trumpers both make a good Sandalwood soap, but you should look to your EDT for more than a few moments of Sandalwood love.
Sue @ Saint Charles Shave makes a good Sandalwood Aftershave splash and EDT that is very reasonable in cost.

I like AoS. I'll let you know about QED in about a month.

How do you get the scent to linger for 4 hours? For me any soap scent is gone 5 minutes after I cold water splash and Witch Hazel.

I don't know about the soaps. But for cream, Art of Shaving is pretty darn good. It lasts fairly long throughout the day, too.

Taylor of Old Bond Street cream is the other one I use, but you won't smell it after an hour. (Plus, my daughter says that the TOBS aftershave balm smells like "old lady perfume.")

I like AoS sandalwood soap myself. I've also tried the Jagger (the one that's floating around B&B--not sure where it is now) and thought that it was OK. Compared to that, AoS has a much more sophisticated scent.

There are some good threads about sandalwood fragrances in Colognes and you can easily find an inexpensive and reliable one like Arden's Sandalwood (even if it's out of production) or higher quality ones such as Tam Dao or even AoS's sandalwood EdT. Check the threads for info on those and many more.

My suggestion would be to also pick up a bar of Mysore Sandal Soap. I paid $1.89 for a 150g bar at an international supermarket near my house. You can get it from Merz Apothecary for about twice that. It's a rich sandalwood, augmented with an astringent, medicinal scent that reminds me a bit of Dettol soap. It's different from the creamy sandalwood that is more familiar here, but I like it.

I agree with Jim about SCS. Great stuff at a reasonable price.

The best cream around is Green Pond -- its made by D.R.Harris and used with the D.R.Harris Sandalwood After Shave ----its phenominal.

To answer the soap question, QED, then AOS. Both are nice, neither lingers (nor is that what they're designed to do). Search B&B's Cologne section for multiple threads on sandalwood. The Cliff's Notes: Diptyque Tam Dao (though there are of course others).

hey everyone... ok i guess the favorite seems to be the QED then the AOS... i was soo close to ordering the AOS rather than EJ... but the cost was like 3-4 times that..

i do get the EJ to last for a little while on my face.. it gets on my hands too and i can smell that too...

the only other soap i have right now is the Tabac.. which although i love the smell before i put it on, has no smell during the shave or any moment afterwards.. i ended uo ordering the Tabac cologne 10oz .. i havent received it yet.. i hope it lastes all day as promised with cotton application as i read in the reviews..

i also read someone getting the AOS sandalwood for $22 that included the wooden bowl.. is this deal still available somewhere? otherwise im gonna have to stick to the BST forum..

thanks everyone

+1 to everything above.
AOS & QED!!
I have (small quantities of) AOS and Tam Dao and they're both quite nice. I'll probably buy a bottle of one or the other at some point.

One of the Amazon affiliates (beautycollection) sometimes has AOS at 1/2 price through Amazon.com (that's how I got mine with bowl for $22.50).

They don't have it now and I don't know if they will again.
