Where to go from L'Occitane Cade?

I've been using this one since Xmas, and I can't imagine using anything else that I have because why bother? But of course, there's always something out there.

I get a reaction to lavender, so Tabac and Speick are out (and I love Tabac too). I'm not thrilled with glycerin soaps, though Conk and Ginger's Garden are great. Tried Mama Bear, not impressed.

I've liked IK and Pre de Provence, but not as much as Cade. So, recommendations? Preferably triple-milled, no lavender, high-end...and I think I like veggie better than tallow but it's hard to say. Ideally, I'd like to be able to get something locally at Colonial Drug or Leavitt and Pierce or the like.

Provence Sante comes to mind. Does Musgo Real make a soap? Others? :w00t:

What about Art of Shaving soaps? Or Mitchell's Wool Fat?

You can often get good prices for AoS on Amazon, and the 'bay has a great deal on the Kent version of MWF.

I'm pretty sure I saw it there when I looked but that was a while back and I tossed the package.

AoS is a definite maybe as we have a store in town. MWF I'd like to try first as lanolin and I have not always been friendly.

Thanks all so far :)

Provence Sante is similar to Cade, but Cade has the edge in my book, as the lather is slightly slicker. I would suggest trying the following:

  • Provence Sante
  • D.R. Harris Arlington/Marlborough; the lather and slickness will be very similar to the Cade.
  • Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet, if you can find it. Not cheap.

The Harris soaps are an incredible deal in my book, and would be my first choice. I have all the soaps listed above.

I love the L'Occitane CADE soap. In fact it is the only non-tallow soap in my regular rotation. If you like the CADE soap, I think you will also like the DR Harris Arlington. It has a very classy, light frangrance, and creates fantastic lather. I can also recommend the AoS unscented soap very highly. (Those 3, along with Tabac, comprise the top of my batting order.)

You could not go wrong with either one. However, both do include tallow in the recipe.

Enjoy!

+1 to many of the above selections:
AoS is excellent (sometimes at Amazon for 1/2 price, but not in the past month). The Sandalwood is excellent.

MWF: I love it.

DR Harris, T&H, Floris, Penhaligons... all excellent soaps.

Thanks for the great replies, all. I've been very interested in the 3T's, and I love Lime, so maybe that's where I'll go next. I'll also keep an eye out for Harris. Cheers!

I'll place another vote for D.R. Harris Arlington or Marlborough. These soaps last forever, lather like a champ, smell great, shave great. Sheesh, what more could you want?

Provence Sante is the soap that meets the requirements listed in the initial post. It is a great soap; I haven't found anything better. :001_wub:

Above are all the normal answers. Try out something odd or slightly rarer for a change. Italian soft soaps, Cella, Valobra or P.160. If you're into thick creamy lather, try Cella and P.160---those redefine the meaning of the word 'thick'...

Last year I moved from Cade to the Truefitt & Hill soap. As a bonus, the T&H soap fit in to the little metal Cade bowl.

Unfortunately, Colonial doesn't have much by way of soap selection, unless they got a big shipment since the last time I was in there.

I recommend picking up a Trumpers puck from C.O. Bigelow in the Copley Mall or Leavitt & Pierce. Art of Shaving Sandalwood SS would be good too (also in Copley Mall). And L & P does carry Mitchell's Wool Fat. hint hint
