Where the heck can I buy mason jars?

I'm looking to purchase a case of 8 oz. mason jars. Can't seem to find them at my local target or walmart (I expected to find them pretty easily). Anyone know of any other stores I can look for them? I don't really want to order them online if I don't have to.

Try grocery stores, they may have some with canning stuff like pictin. I bought mine from Canadian Tire, maybe a road trip north?

I buy my mason/canning jars on Amazon. Go there and search "mason jar" and get ready for the results!

Edit: I really need to read better. :a52: Have you tried a local arts/crafts store?

Craft stores (Michael's, RC Moore, etc), grocery stores (usually in the aisle with household stuff like coolers, flashlights, hardware type stuff, etc, etc)

Also Ive seen them at Christmas Tree Shops, Natural food stores and the like.

Amazon.com as well. Though I prefer to just pay a bit more for local so I dont have to deal with breakage.

Two local wal-marts dont seem to carry them out here for whatever reason. The few times I see them it's just odd singles on the shelf. Yet one in CT has stacks of 12 packs, 3 diff. sizes.

Wal-Mart will carry them, but usually only in the fall when people are canning their veggies. I have seen them almost all year at our local grocery stores. I would also think they would be more readily available in rural areas of the country.

And don't overlook the smaller jars as well.

My local dollar stores have a ton of the smaller jars, just the right size for a tin.

Lowes or home depot may have them. It's interesting you struck out at walmart.

+1 to all these places.

Just a curious question from a B'n'B noob. What are you guys using them for?
John

Storing pipe tobacco so it doesn't dry out.
It's the best way to have multiple blends available.

Personally, I just have two open at any one time... one tin lives in the glove box and the other on my desk. Once gets smoked on the way home from work, and the other at home.

I use mason jars to age my tobacco in. I only smoke Virginia Perique tobaccos that age very well under somewhat controlled conditions and a sealed mason jar provides most of the conditions needed for proper aging. I am currently smoking tobacco that I stored in 2005 and the tobacco has improved greatly because of the 8 years sitting in a sealed mason jar, in a dark cool basement.
