I have made one set of scales on my own. While it was quite satisfying, I wouldn't mind purchasing some plastic scales from time to time. Where do you guys purchase them?
A friend of mine and his kids made a razor for me, technically an RSO.
But the point is that he got the scale material from etsy for $12.

That is the most horrible, yet excellent razor ever. Keep them at it. They are the craft people of the future. Full points for having them work with their hands so young. When I visit, we watch Forged In Fire on television.
But all that they know about straight razors is
that they have heard me renounce my own SRAD
in terms such as
If there was a solid gold razor with my name engraved on it
I wouldn't take it if they paid me!
They knew if they made one for me, I would take it.
The spine is non hardenable steel.
The rest of the blade is made from an agricultural disc.
Those are usually something like 1090 or 1080 steel.

Yeah I do. These kids are leaving me behind. They are watching forged in fire, then actually doing it. Respect.Au contraire David... it's just awesome!
Plus 1080 is a very respectable steel, I have a knife from 1084 (which is nigh on identical I believe) and it's excellent. You need to be getting your forge built...
