What's new

where do you get your Feather blades (Canada)

Hi,

I went through my mini-sample blade pack already, which was composed of Feather, Astra SP, Shark, Gillette Green and Derby. I actually still have 4 or more of each to go through, however so far the clear winner was the Feather, with the Gillette Green a close second. I confirmed this morning that the Derby really aren't for me, the shave felt like I was pulling off my skin with an old blade that already had seen too many shaves. I'll give another go to the others as well.

So I was wondering, fellow Canadians, where do you buy your Feather blades from (in packs of 50/100 or more?) I searched quickly and the cheapest seemed to be at around 37$ for 100. Is there cheaper out there?

Cheers!

Very sorry, I just realized my post was in the wrong thread, is it possible to have it moved?

http://www.razorbladesandmore.com/ is usually where I turn to get blades. Unless I am ordering something else anyway, in which case Fendrihan or the Italian Barber may be fine (but I bet they charge a little more).

Beyond that though, I tend to use Ebay for bulk blade purchases.

All that being said, I have heard that the best way to get Feather blades specifically is from a member here. I can't think of his name now, but I bet of you wonder over into the Vendor forum or maybe the Hobby forum you can find him.

I think we're referring to the same person. It's the website I linked above. He goes by DrIdiot or something like that on here.

thanks for the link, it looks like the best place so far. (also thanks to the mod for moving the thread)

Feathers are a great blade but I have been using the personna hospital blade and it far exceeds feather for longevity sharpness and smoothness. Before ordering a 100 pack of feathers I would give the personna's a try, either the hospital or the lab blue, B&B members say they are the same blade (lab & hospital)I haven't tried the lab blue so can't comment at this moment if they are similar. If your sold on Feathers, Double edge is a good place for feathers, ebay is another, .25-.27 is about the going rate for an individual feather blade any more than that your paying too much.

Thanks for making me hesitate!! LOL
The dream of always getting a better blade is hard to resist... Especially since I've only tried 5 yet, but the Feathers were so nice that I doubt anything will be nicer. However if they are indeed cheaper alternatives, which last longer, it'd be a waste not to try it... lol
Now, where can I get a small pack of those persona hospital for cheap...? I see them on www.razorbladesandmore.com, but somehow, for a $4 pack, there's a $28 shipping charge :-/

Hmm weird, I selected "billing address is the same as shipping address" and suddenly the shipping estimate went down to $8, which is a bit more reasonnable if i make a big order. Is this where you get yours?

Its funny that what I spend to get 100 Astra SP (my go-to blade) paid with shipping included is what you spend on shipping for the more expensive Feathers. It just puts things in perspective.

I haven't paid anything yet! :-D

I also liked Astras actually, and Gillette 7 O'clock Greens, however the Feathers felt like a notch over. Maybe I should wait a few more weeks and do another full rotation between my 5 samplers since my technique is definitely better than it was. However the Derby I tried this morning still didn't feel that good.

I found these Personna labs which are priced "ok" with shipping, so maybe I can try them out.... (there's too many blades out there!)

I actually got a chance to try some personna labs a couple weeks ago. I walked into a beauty supply store looking for shaving soap (just seeing if they had anything interesting) and ended up buying 2 personna blades for $1. Now 50 cents a blade is no deal, but it gave me a chance to see if i liked them.

I'm also in Canada, so if you have a BSO (Beauty Supply Outlet) near you, you might give that a go. Then you don't have to worry about shipping etc....

And just in case you were wondering, they were fantastic blades. Definitely better than the Wilkinson Swords and even Astra SPs.

I bought 100 Feather blades from Double Edge Shaving (out of Singapore) for $27 with free shipping.

He's been mentioned on here many times and I believe is the cheapest for these blades. Also, there is/was a discount code for 8% off (BB101).

Another vote for this trusted vendor. Shipping to Canada is free. 100 Feathers for $27 (after the B&B discount) and free shipping is about the best price you're likely to find from a respectable source.

well, I ordered 10 personna labs from ebay for 6.50. Its a bit expensive but hey, it still beats the hell out of a Mach3 cart! Then I'll see how they compare to the Feathers, since they do seem to be quite a bit cheaper.
If I still prefer the Feathers then I'll go with "double edge shaving place" as the price is the best i've seen yet.

I ordered a small sampler from him and he threw in a few extras, I'd recommend buying that sampler

theres another Ebayer who sells 100's of the Lab's, I bought them and Im happy I did

Good to know!

I'll let you guys know how I like them once they get here. If I still prefer the Feathers then I'll go with one of the previously mentioned sites, otherwise I guess I'll pick one of the persona labs boxes on ebay.

I don't think you will regret it, I have 450 feather in storage because I thought they where the top when I first try them.

I bought a ton of different samples and the personna hospital were one of them, they have been waiting in the drawer for about a year, I wish I tried them earlier. I am still on the first blade it's close to 2 months with that same blade and there seems to be no letting up with the smooth and sharp shave.

I'm in the U.S. but shipping was about one week. YMMV.

Both are outstanding vendors, I've received blades from Sam & Jason in good speed, in fine shape, at fair prices
