Do you do it in a cold bowl? Do you prep the bowl in any way like heating it? Maybe ad the few drops of hot water for a few minutes before lathering?
When mashing soap at the bottom of a ceramic shaving bowl

I soak, with fairly hot water, a washcloth in the bowl while my brush is soaking in another mug.
Once I have used the washcloth I empty the bowl and smear the soap portion over the bottom of the bowl. If it feels hard or crumbly I add some drops of water to get it pasty, only then I start with the brush.

I warm the bowl with hot tap water. I like the lather to be warmer than it would be in a cold copper bowl

Just mins ago after a warm shower I mashed about 3 almonds worth, used tap water to DAMP my brush and got the perfect/best lather ever from Formula T. So much for distilled water and a warm damp bowl. FYI I used a Fine knockoff bowl.
