What's new

Whats your travel setup??

The wife and I are headed down to the Houston area for a few days on a company trip. Were going to celebrate the successes of 2019!!! As I was getting ready this morning, I was curious; what's your travel setup???
These soap containers work great for a smaller brush and razor!!

I smell like a Christmas pudding
I take a Simpson Chubby 2 synthetic in a plastic travel tube. If I am flying I take one or more Bic Metal disposable razors and if going by land then I take a Gillette Rocket HD 500 with Astra platinum blades. For a short trip I take a small 60ml screw top plastic pot which I have filled with Taylor of old Bond Street Jermyn Street cream. For longer trips I take a 150g red Cella tub. Finally, a 50ml vintage Yardley Black Label aftershave. This all fits in my dopp bag.

Just returned from a trip:
Lord L6 razor (in a travel case from WCS)
Mailed blades to my destination
La Toja shave stick
Simpsons Wee Scot (in a pill bottle from my local pharmacy)
Floid vigoroso (in a small plastic bottle)

Great shaves every day using a set up that took very little room in my Dopp kit!

Eversince I am smitten with DE shaving...I don't want to waste anytime at all...I am a daily shaver by necessity of work. I travel due to work very often and I like rotate all my gears...
Here's my travel shave gear...so many variations...depends if I am flying or driving...
This was the latest just now as I am on the road for 10days..

I usually stick with my one synthetic (cashmere knot) and a tabac stick. Aftershave of choice in a sample size bottle. If checking a bag whatever DE and blade I want. Cartridge if carry-on bags only.

Simpson's Wee Scot, either Arko or Palmolive shave stick , my 78 Superspeed, no aftershave, I rarely use it , even at home .

I have gone minimalist for travel. Sensor cart and shaving cream in a silicone travel tube. No brush.

Years ago I traveled on business close to 50% of the time. Now it is only for pleasure. I rarely carry on so I have a permanent travel setup.

My brush is a Muhle Silvertip Fibre syn brush in 23 mm. My razor is a Red Tip. I usually take a puck of Klar soap since it is small and light in weight. The only difference in my setup from when I traveled on business is the brush. At that time syn brushes did not exist so I traveled with a small Hoffritz brush that I still have in my rotation. When rules prohibited blades in carryon baggage I would either mail blades to the hotel I was staying at, to an individual I would be working with at the destination, or I would purchase blades at my destination.

Flying:
Generic cartridge razor
Palmolive shave stick
Vulfix 22B pure badger
Nivea post shave balm

Driving:
Everything stays the same, but I swap the cartridge razor for my EJ Kelvin or Ming Shi and an Astra SP or two.

For Short Trips (up to one week or so):
Schone Open Comb DE Razor / Feather Blades (for passes 1 and 2).
Edwin Jagger DE 89 / Derby Blades (for pass #3).
Omega 599 Travel Shaving Brush in a modified Pharmacy pill bottle.
Saponificio Varesino Stella Alpina Shave Soap in a repurposed Pre de Provence screwtop tin.
Bloc d'Osma Alum Block.
Proraso AS cut 50/50 with Witch hazel in an aftermarket travel spray bottle.
Pure Raw African Shea Butter in a small aftermarket container.

For Lengthy Trips:
Fatip Picolo Open Comb / Bolzano Blades (for passes 1 and 2).
Fatip Gentile Closed Comb / Shark or Derby Blades (for pass #3).
Muhle R108 Tortoise Open Comb (rotation razor for passes 1 and 2).
Edwin Jagger DE89 on a Parker Art Deco 45R Handle (rotation razor for pass #3).
Em's Place Nickel and Faux Tortoise Handle Sensor Cartridge Razor.
Edwin Jagger Silvertip Brush branded for C.O.Bigelow in plastic travel tube.
Em's Place Havana Silvertip Brush in plastic travel tube.
Luxspire Chrome Razor and Brush Stand.
Classic Shaving Bay Rum Shaving Soap in an aftermarket travel container.
Bloc d'Osma Alum Block.
Proraso AS cut 50/50 with Witch hazel in an aftermarket travel spray bottle.

My travel shaving kit has grown and shrunk over the years, depending on the situation. This is its current incarnation:

At the moment, it contains...

Razor: Maggard V3 head (titanium-anodized) + MR11 handle (anodized blue)
Brush: Maggard 18mm Timberwolf synthetic, Travel Size
Blades: Viking's Sword (goes in a checked bag if flying)
Soap: Baxter of California Super Close Shave Formula (in the little screw-top jar)
ASB: Nivea Sensitive (reusing the Marcelle travel-size tube)
Lotion: Gold Bond Ultimate Soothing (reusing the Dove travel-size tube)
Extra: Styptic pencil

Other blades (Astra SP) and soaps (Nivea Sensitive, Gillette Pure) get rotated in and out. Also, I usually wrap things like the razor head in tissue for extra cushioning.

The case used to hold a Bayer glucometer (for testing blood sugar). I'm not diabetic, but I have family members who are. It's made of nylon and measures 13.9 cm x 10.0 cm x 2.5 cm (5.5" x 4" x 1"). Once zipped up, I can squish it slightly to fit in the breast pocket of my shirt or jacket, if necessary. Otherwise, it takes up minimal space in my carry-on.

Razor: Frankenrazor: P0D4 Razor + Merkur Top Cap
Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium (2)
Post-shave: Crystal Alum Stick
Aftershave Balm: Stetson

My kit is the same whether flying or driving.

Razor: Bic Disposable or clippers.
Brush: none.
Cream: travel sized Barbasol or a small bottle of shaving oil.

My travel kit during March trip (unexpectedly cut short):

Travel Kit March 2020s.jpg

All stored inside my Eddie Bauer expedition toiletry bag.
For the long trips I pack two brushes with natural hair, my favourite, two or three creams or soaps, and so on. All packed inside the checked-in luggage.

Travel kit looks different for short trips when use carry-on case.

Soap: Van der Hagen
Blade(s): TBD
Other: Travel bottles of Witch Hazel and A/S.
