What's new

What's your post shave order?

I use a/s first to disinfect / “seal” the skin, then WH to calm it down, then balm for moisture and conditioning.

Applying a/s after WH causes a burning sensation and pretty much negates the soothing effect of WH.

1. Rinse with warm water
2. Styptic pencil, rarely needed
3. Aftershave
4. Beard oil massage in and brush
5. Beard balm apply and brush
6. Moustache wax Apply and style

After a cold water rinse I use a homemade aftershave that contains witch hazel, aloe vera, and glycerin.

Hot water rinse
Rub leftover shave soap on face
Hot water rinse again
Cold water rinse

Alum (if needed, but almost never)
Witch Hazel and Aloe (if needed, but rarely)
Aftershave (often, but not always, usually unscented)
Balm or lotion (particularly in winter, but some modern soaps remove the need for this)

Warm water rinse
Alcohol-based aftershave splash
After 5 minutes (during which I clean and put my gear back to where it belongs) a balm to rehydrate and soothe the skin.

Rosseforp

I think this fits, Gents
Warm towel rinse
Clean gear
Witch Hazel
After shave splash
Nivea balm

alum and styptic if necessary

1) cold water rinse
2) alum
3) clean gear and after wash alum off
4) balm

Question for guys that use alum/wh/balm, do you rinse any of this off or just layer it?

Short warm water rinse to remove excess lather then switch to cold water rinse.
Alum (I might cut down on how many times I use alum - it’s drying the hell out of my skin)
Clean gear
Cold water rinse to remove alum
Nivea balm on face
After shave splash on neck.
