What's new

What's your choice of drink for New Years?

For the kids it will be Martinelli's sparkling apple juice. Love that stuff. For my wife perhaps Moscoto or a variation of it. For me, well, I'm a lightweight and will sip some nice Tawny port. Just a sip.
Anyone traveling for the New year? As for me I'm staying home as I pulled my back something good doing yard work. On my first day of vacation no less! On a serious note, I wish all a very safe New Year.

The Mrs. and I will be staying home and will bring in the New Year 2013 drinking Asti Spumanti (and I'll be smoking a Cuban 'La Flor de Cano Selectos' cigar too)!

Coffee....

At my age it is about the only way I can stay up that late :wheelchair:

Ha! Sounds good.

I'm with turtle, coffee. Add Bailey's Irish Cream and I'm good.
Yes! nice combo!

Cool! Be Safe!

Spending New Year's with my Mormon in-laws, so it'll be sparkling apple juice. Probably get a good buzz on with a couple Belgian ales before heading over, though.

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
I'll be leaving soon to head to a friends house for a shindig . 6-pack of Coors Light oughta get me to midnight.

Drinking a Southern Tier Porter at the moment. Debating scotch or another beer after this. Wish I had made it to a liquor store to get some bitters to try an Old Fashioned.

And my New Years usually consists of watching a marathon of a show. Forgot what it was last year. Year before was The Pacific. Year before was Band of Brothers. Wife is watching Walking Dead right now. 30 years old means party like your elderly grandmother on NYE.

The wife and I are in the Santa Ynez wine country, drinking wine and some local beer the last couple days. As we're getting ready for our NYE dinner we popped a 2006 Iron Horse Classic Vintage Brut to celebrate with some bubbles... happy new years to all, I wish everyone a happy, healthy and successful 2013

Egg nogg spiked with George Dickel Cascade Hollow. And I'll probably find some other things to mix it before the night is through.

Currently some BareFoot Pink Moscato (hey the wifey likes it and it tatses good right??)
For midnight some Barefoot Spumante, I'm not too into the very fancy sparkling/Champange.

Had a martini for supper though with a very nice new york strip, very good!

I'm making Sazeracs later on! Probably have a couple of beers at the wine bistro I'm going to here in a couple hours. My buddy works there, so we're hanging out there till he gets off then going to my place for drinks.

Well, the world didn't end folks and we enjoyed some good drinks to end the New Year. Wishing all of you a healthy & safe year ahead. Till next year.....:a17:

Btw, this is what my wife bought me. It'll last a long time. Hmm, maybe some.beef tips marinated in port.

"Can't Raise an Eyebrow"
Just a couple of Wild Turkey and Cokes, had to get up at 0500 and go to work!

I spent the 31st in bed with a bug, so I stuck to hot chocolate :(
And I'd agreed to do the whole 'Dry January' thing (I couldn't come up with a reason not to that didn't make me sound like an alcoholic^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H 'publican's friend') so it looks like I'm on the wagon for a while..... It was only later I remembered that my birthday is in January, so it'll be my first dry birthday in twenty years....

Well that certainly takes guts. My hat off to you! Fortunately there are a LOT of good drinks out there that doesn't involve drinking. Root beer is one of thise mysterious drinks that is really hard to nail and I have been on a binge lately with it. Also being from the prohibition days there is some cool history to it.

Water was my drink of choice!

You know, when all is said & done it's the best thirst quencher around.

Presumably taken IV? :)

We don't get a lot of root beer over here, but I have been experimenting with fake-bloody-marys. Various mixtures of spices/chillies/other-random-additions.

Last night's was good. 1/4tsp of my standard spicy mixture (mix of chillies, paprika, cayenne, cumin, garlic, salt and a few other random ingredients), 1tsp worcestershire sauce, 1/2tsp '95% Pain' chilli sauce, 1 dash lemon juice. 250ml tomato juice, couple of ice cubes, stir up. I could almost have convinced myself I had a proper drink.

Being off the ethanol is supposed to be a good aid to weight loss, but given the calorific content of most of the alternatives, I'm not sure it will be (part of the reason I use tomato juice is that it's pretty low calorie). Do you know what? I'm going to go and start a thread - see if anyone else is doing this.... There's quite a lot of publicity in the UK for a dry January.....
