where and how did you find these specimens?

I have found them in shops, from members, and on eBay. The best you can hope for is find them when they appear under-the-radar because folks tend to spend a ridiculous amount of coin on them.
They seem to be difficult to pin-down as far as establishing a date of manufacture, however, this one has the Stylized "R" logo with the word, that was first put into use for commerce in 1956. It was eventually trademarked in 1964 and the trademark expired in 1984. Though the stylized "R" is no longer under trademark protection, it is still in use today.

Those made prior to 1956 had the simple "Hobo-Like" font text.
