What's With My Astras?

Been working my way through a 100 pack. Last few (different 5-packs) had four light "dots" of something kind of adhesive. Not so bad as to render them unusable, but not like the others I've opened. Anyone else ever seen this?

????

All Astra (and other Russian) blades I've seen have 2 or 4 small dots on them. It holds the wrapper so the blade doesn't shift and cut the wrapper.

Those are little wax dot used to hold the wrapper on the blade. I've been using Astras for quite a while now and all of my Astra blades have them.

The glue dots are a sign of blades made in the PPI plant in St. Petersburg. There are also blades made in Moscow, e.g., Ladas, Rapiras and Voskhods, that do not have the glue dots.

Just use the blade coming out of the razor and scrape it off. Though it really hasn't done any damage to any of my razors, it gets obnoxious sometimes. The last blade I loaded into my Gillette Old Type had so much wax it was spewing out past the edge of the top cap. Overall, not a big deal.

Thanks, guys. One, DANG you guys know a lot about this stuff, "PPI plant in St. Petersburg". Two, I'll ignore the adhesive. I probably wasn't turning them over when putting them into the razor before, thus I did not notice it. Just got a EJ 89 Barley and turned the blade over for some reason.

Although an eye sore, even if they came close to the blade, they've never actually caused any problem. Thinking about it I was trying to think about the glue causing problems like having hair stick to it, and I've had more problems from making my lather too thick.

If you're interested in learning a little more yourself, here's good place to start. You can then follow the link to find out more about the PPI plant (well known as it is the source of many blades that people consider among their favorites.
