What's new

What's Williams?

Ahhh.....The question that has plagued mankind since the dawn of time.

........or could just be a $2 soap that gets way too much attention by ALL parties involved.

I wish someone would post a pic of the horrible lather. Having never used the stuff surely it can't be THAT bad?

I'm a newbie, but from I hear around here, its the best shaving soap on the market. I also heard you have to be an Exclusive member of Williams with a VIP card to buy it.

Cornerstone of American history; it has seen and probably served a lot of your presidents.....

That still leaves you free to like it or not....:001_rolle

What's the big issue with Williams soap? You guys never stop with the Williams threads!
I never tried that stuff, it is impossible to find around here... :tongue_sm

It's a shaving soap that gives me a shave about as good as any other good shaving soap.

The only exception is = It's the only soap I need to soak in hot water before taking the brush to it.

That's about the only difference. Take it or leave it. I took it this morning and had a,,,,,,,,,,,,, pretty darn good shave buddy!

What is it? It's so much more than just a shaving soap. I use it exclusively - as a shaving soap, bath soap, laundry soap, shampoo, toothpaste, dietary supplement, etc. It's a personal statement, a lifestyle choice, a devotion, it's just that good...:punk:

To treat your question seriously (I know, I know, totally uncalled for behaviour on my part!), Williams was THE quintessential shaving soap for the better part of a century in the US. Brands like Old Spice and Burma Shave were popular, you could get fancier stuff in department stores, but if you teleported to any random point in the US a half century ago odds are that you'd find Williams in a heck of a lot of shaving mugs.

People just have great memories of Williams from their fathers and grandfathers.

The older generation has found memories of their Fathers, and Grandfathers using Williams. Not so for the younger generation among us.

I am 33, my father has never used anything except for canned goo in the time I can remember (I briefly remember him using the Gillette Brush Plus with his Atra). My grandfather passed on when I was a mere 5 years old. But even so, I am sure he used canned goo as well.

To be honest, the user base for Williams is dying. The users of Williams (who are not a part of this board) are probably at least in the their mid-70's.
