What's new

What's this? Excited to shave?

So, as I was driving home and caressing my face stubble I suddenly became excited to go home for a shave tonight. Then I realized... This is the first time I have EVER been excited to shave. I look forward to the lather and aftershave (of course the smooth face too). It's funny what discovering a new way, well actually a very old way, of doing something that can change your opinion on an activity I've never enjoyed.

Tonight will be my 3rd shave with a DE blade. I've been using an Omega Brush, Lord blade and my Goodwill handle. First shave I used Arko soap, last time Mike's Lemongrass and eucalyptus soap (SOO NICE). I just thought I would share my excitement with you guys. Thanks for reading!

I'm pretty sure that feeling never gets old. I am getting excited about running out of my first ever shaving soap so I can experience something different all over again. :001_cool:

This pretty much sums up why we're here. Well, except for the "caressing my face stubble" part.

Great comment. In the last 2 weeks I started wet shaving for the first time and also bought a new Nokia Lumia 820 - big upgrade from an old Blackberry and I work in technology so in theory should be excited by technology mostly. But which is exciting me most ? Its the wet shaving and have about 15 shave creams so far for my EJ DE86. Don't get me wrong; I love the phone; but now I get more interested in using it to tether to my tablet access 4G and read B&B and look up shaving supplies I can buy on my next overseas trip for work ( Budapest & Istanbul - on all my trips I think I will aim to pick up local supplies ) ! So, with my other expensive hobby of photography, it seems to offer a mixture of classic engineering precision admiration ( men like watches and cars etc because we respect the engineering while we admire the curves which appeals to our artistic side) and ongoing improvement and practice ( we love a challenge too ). I am now looking in the little shops here in Singapore for bowls and cabinets to store my supplies in. I am only starting on DE and have a long way to go but its kind of nice really to be "excited by tradition" ( hmm I may trademark that if it isn't already ).

I have to agree with the general sentiment. For the past few years, shaving stopped being something I dreaded. I found good products and the Fusion gave me a great shave, without irritation. No longer did I fear shaving--but I can't say I looked forward to it, either.

Then I started using a shaving brush. I had been using quality cream and products (mostly AOS) but using a brush kicked that experience up. I started Googling a lot of shaving stuff--more often than not, the most/best results were right here on B&B: Joining was inevitable, resistance was futile. Shaving actually started to become something I looked forward to. Whoudda thunk it?

For the past 2-3 weeks I have been DE shaving and have done so even weekends--mostly to improve my technique (or so I tell myself). Now I'm actually excited to shave. Really? My shaves are no better than with the Fusion, nor more irritation free. What's the appeal?

I think I know why. Shaving with the Fusion was just something I did--I could do it in my sleep. DE shaving takes some time and concentration. While I like it when my shave is "uneventful" the process is always very eventful.

My only regret with getting into this DE shaving thing is that I can only do it every 2-3 days

Congratulations...you're officially one of us! 40 years of shaving, and I've never had any kind of enjoyment until I joined this crowd...except for maybe those first teenage shaves. This truly is fun, relaxing, enjoyable...add your own adjective here.

Well, after rubbing the stubble, when he faceturbates afterward he'll have a comparison<G>. Still enjoying wetshaving after 45+ yrs. But enjoying it a lot more now that I have this group to "feed the addiction" as it were.. :thumbup1:
