What's the secret to Nivea creme?

I want to like this stuff but I can't figure it out. Is it an aftershave? pre-shave? anytime moisturizer?

I want to use it as an AS but when I try it just paints my face white. Its really thick/creamy, takes a long time to "soak" in, and leaves my face feeling greasy.

I've tried using less, like a pea size amount but I find it difficult to cover my whole face with just a tiny amount. Should I apply it over a wet face?

What IS this stuff??

I assume the question is serious. Nivea crème is a moisturizer, mainly intended for hands, feet, legs and torso. It has nothing to do with shaving. I woud not apply it on my face.

yes it is a serious question. The reason I bought it was because I seen pics around here where it looks like folks have used it during their shave. I was just trying to figure out how they used it with their shave.

I know that there are two kinds of this cream. The US produced one and the Germany produced one. The first is (allegedly) utter crap and the German is very good. In any case, it is thick and rich cream which clogs up the pores if not applied correctly. I only know it as a moisturizer (mainly for body), but others may chime in with shave-related applications of this cream. I'm interested in learning about it.

Well this explains why applying it to my face was such a hassle

I guess mine is made in Mexico??

I thought the pictures of Nivea products I was seeing was this Nivea after shave balm. I've heard rave reviews about this product. I agree what you got was lotion, I used to have some of that. I personally don't like lotions that thick and heavy, reminds me of vaseline (which I hate).

Most the pictures I'm referring to are in this thread and they look like the creme was used as part of the shave.

I've used the Nivea ASB you linked to and it is really great stuff.

Try the post shave balm instead!

I use a Nivea cream as a pre-shave . I put a very small amount on cheeks and neck in places where I had some irritation problems. Then add water to wet my face and dilute the thickness of the cream. Since I started that I never have irritation. YMMV.

I use this true classic every day to hydrate the non shaven parts of my face. The beard area gets treated with an ASB.
I like it a lot and it has always been around, my father uses it too.
Compared to more modern daycreams it is indeed rather thick, but just as effective to me.
