What's new

What's on your work bench right now?

This Landers Frary & Clark arrived by mail today. Part of my novice refurbishing hobby. I guess I’ll pull the pivot and see what’s what. This will be my second project. I have one ready to try, but the strop I ordered hasn’t even been shipped yet. I’ve yet to have my first straight shave.

Finished my first rescaling project -
Scales made from a sheet of blue acrylic a few weeks ago, the pinning was started yesterday and completed today. Thanks to all who responded to my repinning post as well as those who responded to earlier threads on pinning which I also have read. Some of the YouTube videos I’ve seen suggested that the pinning should only take 10 minutes, it probably took me at least an hour. But in the end no broken scales, Learned a lot, definitely some room for improvement next time! The blade is a Robeson bellied hollow, still need to hone it before I take it for a ride. First the before, then the after.

Thanks - now I just need to learn how to put in a pin correctly!
I am trying to decide on a pattern for a mens valet for my nightstand. I have a nice piece of leather I bought to line the tray just need to decide what sort of wood to use for the sides and if I should make a drawer for it been hoping for some ideas from you fine gentlemen on another thread I had.

A well-worn IC Vincent, Boker 1056 and a Tally Ho. The Ho had to have some work done, as apparently someone thought it would make a fancy pry bar! Has some honing ahead, too. the Vincent, I had to move the spike behind the heel up a little because it was getting pretty close to flush with the bevel.

Here's what we started with.

Amazingly, the Vincent cleaned up enough to suit me with just 0000 steel wool and Flitz!

That 45 degree line at the bevel toe was actually bent. This one took some sandpaper!

I posted a picture of the blade previously after removing a notch from the heel - it’s a 6/8” Torrey. Today I got around to putting on scales the first set that I made from my sheet of practice acrylic. Its my second effort at pinning and it went vastly better than the first effort. Having an actual jeweler’s anvil instead of using the side of a claw hammer definitely helped - having a hole drilled in the anvil helped even more for getting the first end peened. Not that this is an impressive anvil - note the dings that the brass pin left in the surface! Another change from the last job is I left out the inner washers. Not sure if the razor will work better, but it certainly looks nicer IMO!
