What's new

What's on your work bench right now?

A little work on the Waterville Bijou this evening. Disassembly, cleaning, then sanding from 1k to 5k.

Flitz, and Renwax followed. The scales were cleaned and are getting a neetsfoot soak overnight.

Final state for the blade. Some patina remains, but I prefer that for a vintage razor. War wounds and all that.

Cleaning and polishing the scales, reassembly, and honing is on tap tomorrow. Before and after pictures when I'm done.

Just ordered some lovely olivewood scales for my old Wade & Butcher. I need to get it apart and begin to work on the steel.

The plastic scales are in great shape, the blade is scratched and has very minor rust spots. The blade is blunt.

About 2 hours of work and it's a $200 razor again. I have no idea why it was sold, it was so easy to fix!

It took longer than I had anticipated, but I feel good about the work I put into it... and well... I'll let the photos speak for the results.

Greeves & sons SheafWorks Full Wedge (although I suspect that long ago it was in fact a near wedge)

This officially has me soooo backed up on restores, I WILL also be busy til Xmas.
:santa:

that is some clean & straight bevel! Nice job!

I'd like to say it was effortless...

Both sides actually have a very slight low spot near the shoulder of the blade, which was very uneven when I first started. I wanted to keep it as close to original condition as I could, so I just made them even and left it. On the other side the bevel does wave a little towards the heel though.

Thank you, I'm guessing you've battled with a wedge once or twice.

Getting ready to refurb a razor it looks like my great grandfather refurbished (the scales anyway) this was all done pre 1934 , so I am hoping to get the scales a little nicer, I just ahve to decide what material to use for the new ones.
