What's Erasmic supposed to smell like?

I have the stick and it looked like it was sitting on the shelf for a while when I got it. It just smells like soap and not a very good smell

It smells to me like rendered animal fat.

I tried the tallow version and I couldn't get a good lather. It also irritated my skin a little bit.

Not surprising as the "good stuff" is the tallow-based formula. But, I've noticed only "soap" scent with mine. And I have pre-first-reformulation stock from a few years ago.

I'm surprised the tallow formula didn't work for you. It really lathers like a champ. It's the first-reformulation/non-tallow stuff that's totally worthless.

Maybe I got a bad stick. I saw some in another shop that might be from a different batch so I could try it again. The Palmolive and Arko sticks are cheaper, though :001_smile

It's possible you got a bad one, yeah. Arko is definitely cheaper and performs just as well, but OMG it reeks. If you do buy more Erasmic, make sure there's tallow or tallowate on the label. The non-tallow stuff is horrible from all reports.

Where can the tallow version be found?

The latest new version has put the tallow back, so you can get it at all the usual places. Just read the label before purchasing to make sure you're not getting the non-tallow stuff. Several on line sites have it as well.

Of course, there is an Erasmic soap without tallow that is very good - it comes in a bowl, has a great citric scent, and has been my soap of choice for the last few months.

Oh, yes. Forgot about that. The bowl has never had tallow and is very good. It's only the stick that had, then didn't have, and now has tallow again. It's the non-tallow sticks that are trash. The non-tallow bowl soap has always been (and still is) very good.

the cream's got a very powdery, oily smell. similar to VO5 hair dressing or brylcreem IMO

It smells very similiar to a classic Revlon hair cream Top Brass. Very pleasant and old school.

I love traditional, clean grooming scents. I've heard Erasmic mentioned as THE barbershop scent. After reading these hair groom descriptions I might have to buy some of this. I've always loved the scent of Brylcreem and Top Brass and have joked before that I'd like to make Brylcreem scented cologne. Does Erasmic have a cologne or aftershave of the same scent?

meh ............. I'm not a great lover of ERAMSIC. I have the both the Re-Forumulation stick and the latest Re-Formulation of the stick and am not too impressed. I guess it's the packaging more than anything else as I find the soap is crumbly and the holder to be be very poor. Even the Black bowl is not that great really.

For me Palmolive is a much better soap and is probably easier to find here in the UK.

Now the cream in the silver tube, that's a whole different matter. That stuff is really good, it lathers like a champ and has a great smell too that I find to be really nice. Be sure to pick up the silver tube though, the one made in Jordan IRC?

Definitely the Right Stuff.

I like the smell of this stuff, old fashioned sort of scent, while the soap bowl, my current fav. soap, is quite different, wish they did a a/s splash:lol:
