What's a step up to the simpson x2 best badger brush?

Hi guys, my first brush is the Simpson X2 commodore best badger, I have been using it for a month now and I like it. However I haven't tried anything else, what would you guys suggest as a step up or an addition to my current x2 in the Simpson brand?
thanks for the help

What differences should I expect between the two?
2mm larger knot diameter so you have a slightly bigger loft and a 6mm height differential. So, essentially you will have the same softness of the Commodore X2's Best badger but you will have more of it (but not to an excessive amount). I personally find the Commodore X3 to be the quintessential perfect brush and if I could never get another brush I would not be upset so long as I had this one.

Sir, do you bowl or face lather? And are you happy with Simpsons Best grade of hair or would like to try something softer? Any handle design you particularly like?

I keep coming back to my Commodore X2 from my vintage blades two-band. It's an easy brush to use and doesn't hog soaps and creams like my larger brush.

Thanks Marco, When I bought my commodore X2 I bought it thinking I would face lather but I ended up bowl lathering due to my inexperience in making good lather. As for the softness or handle, I haven't used anything else so far, so no I don't have a particular handle design in mind. That is why I would like to get your opinion on what to try next, something that is also great but different in the Simpsons line up

For bowl lathering I suggest a brush in the Polo, Persian Jar or Fifty Series. If money is not an issue you could try a Super (Silvertip) knot, which has snow white tips and a silky soft feeling on the skin. Also, compared to the Best it holds more water and blooms more. I'm not saying that the Super is any better than the Best because this is a personal choice and depends only on your preferences, but it's certainly a different feeling worth trying IMHO.

Great and different in the Simpsons line up as you ask for would be:

Face lathering brush: Duke 2 or Chubby 1

Bowl lathering brush: Persian Jar 3, Harvard H4 (or larger), or Emperor 3

Any of those should fit the bill for you.

I would try a Simpson 2 Band.....

Best bang for your buck 2-band Simpsons (IMO), that can both bowl and face lather is the Ehsan, which is a limited edition colonel.

If you can get away from purchasing a Simpsons I'd go for either a M&F (the upcoming M&F group buy sounds promising)or contact Rudy Vey and ask him to make your preferred handle with a shavemac knot.

I really like my dad's Simpson 57 in 2-band...called the Douglas - Which was sold by Bullgoose Shaving originally...I think Mark @ Simpson will still make this brush though.

The longer handle makes it very easy to bowl lather and is also a superb face latherer. It does have much more face feel than the X2, in my opinion. I have not tried the 2-band M7 but the handle is superb in my opinion, and I'm sure the 2-band grade would also be a wonderful choice as a step up from your X2.

hi kooze, I didn't get the name above "Ehsan" I think it might be a misspelling. What is it did you mean to say?

+1 to the commodore X3, I love this brush but when looking to buy I was also suggested the Duke 3 and the 58 which both have similar dimension with a little denser knot. I really like the flow through of my commodore and don't think those would be for me, but the commodore did sway me toward larger brushes especially coming from a Simpson special. I think my next big brush purchase will be a custom shavemac in a similar size or larger that the X3

If your not set on a Simpson I would consider a Shavemac. If you want a soft brush go with the silver tip, but if you like nice back bone and slight scrubbiness the D01 knots are great.
