Title says it all, so what would be your choice for a good, but not too expensive, scope for this nice gun. I was thinking of a Simmons that are specially made for .22lr. Anybody has experience with them??
Good? Get a Nikon prostaff 4x rimfire scope. They are between $75 and $100 and well worth every penny. Very clear, VERY crisp, and the mechanics work perfect. Fixed scopes are simple meaning more of the money goes to the glass. I would doubt there is a better scope for the money. Actually, I would say there is NOT one. I have one on my Glenfield 25, and I find no need for more magnification on a HUNTING/plinking .22!
I work in optics (Every day I grind and polish aspherical lenses). DO NOT waste your money on cheap scopes. Cheap scopes = cheap optics = poor light transmission and all kinds of distortion. Not to mention poor mechanics, which compounds the problems. After years of chinese scopes, I try to avoid them. Japanese, Filipino, or American. I can't afford Zeiss or Swarovski, so...
That is exactly what I hoped for. I would love to get a Zeiss or so, but they are quite pricy. I know my uncle in Germany had one for his hunting rifle and he always said its the best money can buy, this was in the 60's and even then the scopes and binoculars from Zeiss started at 1000 Deutsche Mark...
Nikon, Leupold (or Redfield), or an older japanese made Tasco for $35 off fleabay. The Japanese Tasco 4X scopes really are good optically. Not adjusted for .22 specifically, but from about 35 yards and out its just fine. I have had one or about 20 years now and refuse to replace it.
Thanks for all the tips, the Nikon was on sale at Cabela's and I had enough points to pay for it, so it should be here in the next week with the proper rings. The mount from Henry takes a bot longer, they say about two weeks.
