What's new

What would be a great 3rd brush?

I have a C&E BBB 21mm knot and a Shavemac D01 20mm knot. Right now I use the C&E BBB 4x/week and the Shavemac D01 3x/week. I may want something denser than the C&E BBB but not as dense as D01. I want something that is different than what I have whether it is size or hair grade/density/softness.

I am leaning towards an Omega Boar but don't know which one. Also a Rooney 1/1 or 3/1 or special (pure). Maybe a Kent bk4. I may want to wait until I see another 50% Crabtree and Evelyn and buy the EJ super that is $85 (42.50) which seems pretty large ~25mm.

Any suggestions. I don't want to spend more than $75.

How about a Rooney style 2? Might be closer to your spec. requirements than 1 or 3.

Get an Omega 48 or 49 as well, you can get it delivered for $15 and its great.

I agree that a quality boar brush is a must. I don't think you can go wrong with Rooney for any price. I don't know how their density compares to D01 hair brushes, but they are fairly dense. I am also considering a Simpson from the Commodore series, three sizes for good prices.

Try the Omega Professional boar brush from West Coast Shaving ($9 plus shipping). I have several badger brushes that cost 5-10 times as much and I am getting great lather from this boar - it takes a week or two of breaking in to get rid of the boar stink, get the bristles softened up and get on the learning curve (boar bristles are denser and hold less water than badger) but it feels great, especially with the jumbo sized handle and reall whipps up a nice lather. Good Luck!

Kent bk4. It's really alot different than the two brushes you have and is great with both soaps and creams. If you keep an eye out on the boards you can find one used for 40 or 50 bucks. As a matter of fact there's one for sale on another board as we speak.

I think I am leaning toward a boar brush. It looks like WCS has the Omega 49. I think that is a lot bigger than my current brushes (128mm tall according to my calculations). Is there any other Omega that is worthwhile from another site? Maybe around 23-25mm knot not bigger than 115mm tall?

Also do all Omega boar brushes have the same grade boar hair? I know they have different sizes and some are banded.

I have a Semogue 2000 ordered from Leon which will be my third. C&EBBB, B&B Essential are my other two. The C&E really only sees action now as a travel brush.

I feel the boar revolution in the air... and these Semogue brushes are going to lead it. Check these out before you buy an Omega. Or what the hey, get both.

I'd suggest maybe not the BK4, as great a brush as it is, only because to me, it's no more dense than the C&E BBB.

Actually, there's an argument that it is pretty dense, but the hair is so fine it doesn't feel dense. Regardless, to me, it feels less dense.

I'd probably second the Rooney, or consider a QED brush maybe?

How much did it cost to ship to US?

Man I don't know if I should get ab Omega or Semogue.

If you use soaps, you could not ask for a better addition than a Rooney 1/1 or 1/2. IMHO, it would round out your collection perfectly.

EDIT: The 1/1 is $75, the 1/2 is about $99.

Just purchased the Semogue 1305. It was reasonably priced, I don't have a boar, and I like the look of it.

Only boar I tried was the Men-U at Ulta for $20. It was pretty bad. Hopefully this brush will work well.

Also one day I will purchase a Rooney 1/1 or 3/1.
