What wax to use on Pipes?

If you have access to a buffing wheel, pure carnuba. If not, you can buy Paragon / Halcyon wax designed for pipes, but for my money, I like a mixed paste like Claphams Salad Bowl Polish from Lee Valley (a mix of beeswax, carnuba and microcrystaline wax).

A good trick for rusticated and sandblasted pipes: use a soft toothbrush, a hair-dryer and a lot of patience to remove the excess wax.

Caveat: this is for briar/wood only! Meerschaum should only see pure filtered beeswax.

Edit: You may find that pipes still don't look as shiny as you would like after waxing. This is due to abrasions on the surface of the wood; hit these with ascending grades of micromesh and/or abrasives on a buffing wheel to bring back the luster.
