Just finished ZeroZeroZero. It was very good.

I am also very much enjoying the latest series of Better Call Saul.

The first season is the weakest. They made the first season and shopped it around to all the major premium networks, HBO, Showtime etc. and no one wanted it. AMC was the last network on their list and their last hope. They ran with it.

It is a fantastic character study of the downward spiral of greed and self destruction. All the characters are outstanding as is the writing and acting. I swear someone on the production team has insight in the criminal underworld because they have a very firm grasp on realism.

Stay with it, you'll be rewarded.
Utterly fascinating--and disturbing--the way we're persuaded to accept and embrace White's moral disintegration as the series progresses. Unlike "The Sopranos," which takes place in an already inverted moral universe, "Breaking Bad" takes us along on White's oblivious descent into darkness.

The names, of course, tell us much. White is just a plain-vanilla, middle-class chap facing a health crisis who transmutes into Heisenberg, a creature of great moral uncertainty.

Definitely a series worth watching and contemplating.

Just started "Tiger King." Gotta' see what the hoopla's about.

Where do they find these people? (A question I ask about most "reality" shows.)

Its that transformation of a person or people that fascinates me. The motivation for them to turn into what they despise the most. Thats mirrored in Breaking Bad with his old partners of Grey Matter with his self shame and bitterness towards them being a very large part of his motivation for his descent into greed and violence and to win at all costs. Even when winning, is really losing.

They accomplished that so well in Breaking Bad its astonishing.

Breaking Bad was astonishing. To me the best dramatic series ever. Probably not my favorite, but what I do not love about it, I still understand the merit of. I think the Greeks thought a lot about what this show delivers.

I completely agree.

Once again, I'm in complete agreement.

I think the Greeks thought a lot about what this show delivers.

I belive you may well be right about this, and it would probably apply to The Sopranos as well. Nietzsche wrote about the Greeks relationship with drama extensively in The Birth of Tragedy. The links might appear tenuous at times but they are definitely there.

Watching the Mandalorian on Disney+, because the wife just had to sign up for it. I like it, but I doubt I will keep the service just for this show.

I have to admit to a certain level of disappointment over what is not yet available on Disney's stream. No Deadpool (1 OR 2), no Logan, Rise of Skywalker not yet available (small beer on this one, if I'm honest). Have not really delved to far into the search function, but there seems to be a fair bit of recent stuff not yet there.

Just started season one of Homeland, had never seen a single episode before.

Like you I missed the whole hulabaloo around Homeland when it aired. Then I binged all eight seasons on Netflix. Surprisingly it keeps on giving for the whole eight seasons. I was impressed.

Just started the Spanish series Money Heist on Netflix. I'm only three episodes in, but good so far.

Coming to the end of 'Dark' season one. German drama about...shhhhh

So far pretty engaging.

I enjoyed "Dark" quite a bit. At first I started watching it with the English dub but it was flat and driving me crazy so I started over watching it in German with the English subtitles. It was much better! The 2nd season doesn't disappoint and I'm looking forward to the 3rd (supposedly final) season. I think it may be coming out later this year.

Homeland is excellent. I had my doubts about the show after the whole Brody story arc ended but the show was still excellent with the new story lines. It's definitely a top-shelf show!

Yeah I never watch a show dubbed into English. I find a lot of cultural influence is lost that way. Also a lot of them come over like eighties porn film quality dubbing. Strange because when I lived in Germany in the eighties/nineties, they had a lot of Foreign stuff dubbed into German, especially British and American, and it was great quality.
