What's new

What to expect from my new M&F Blonde Badger?

Hi Gents: Hope all is well with you & your families. Recently (on Monday), I was lucky to have purchased a M&F L7 Blonde Badger brush from a well respected gentleman here on B&B. It arrived today & I cannot stop staring at this thing of beauty. The tortoise handle is elegant.

To the M&F brush owners... what are the dimensions of this brush? Also, how do you like the M&F's performance and handling? I already know it's a looker. I cannot wait to try my "new" brush. I am looking forward to reading your own reviews of this brush.

Expect sheer awesomeness. Very soft, fairly dense, good backbone.
24x51
Virtually effortless lather building.

It could be a 26mm knot too and loft on these seems generally to be around 50-52. Should be very soft at the tips with good backbone. You should have no problems with lather retention. You bought a beautiful brush that will be a joy to use. Did the seller not give you the specs on it?

Congratulations, Mel ... beautiful brush!

The L7 you have appears to have the 2-band 'Heritage' style fan knot ... the knot dimensions are likely 24-26mm X 50-52mm, based on my visual inspection of your photo. If I'm correct, this is a nice knot with medium density of hairs, and moderately stiff backbone, with soft but ever-so-slightly scrubby tips. I'm confident you will like it ... enjoy! :w00t:

+1

Hard for me to distinguish a 24mm from a 26mm on a computer screen. Send me the brush and I'll tell you.

I wouldn't be surprised if the loft turns out to be closer to 54mm just judging based on the overall appearance as well as measuring the diameter in relation to the loft on my screen (about 29mm x 64mm). Camera angle has some bearing on both, however. I any case, looks to me like you've scored a very fine brush!

Nice looking handle. I have the same brush with ivory handle. The knot is 26mm and loft of 51mm. Handle height is 60mm. This is my current favorite brush right now, wish I had the tortoise handle though.

That's not just any "Blonde Badger"...that's an L7 Blonde Badger...

You can expect one of the most ergonomic handles out there, one of the best knots out there and joy every time you use it.

I have a butterscotch 2 band L7 Blonde 24/50 Hybrid knot and it's a great all around brush and one of my favourites. In fact, it's the oldest rotation brush in my den and it's not going anywhere.

Thanks so much for the responses gents. Enclosed is a pic of the M&F brush which is between the SOC (Cherrywood) and the Semogue 2012 SE.

I'm not sure (can only speak for mine and yours), but I think Lee matches 24mm knots with 58mm L7 handles and 26mm knots with 60mm L7 handles. It also suspect the handles are scaled proportionally, so it's pretty hard to identify the size of one from a photo unless examples of both are included or another brush with known knot dimensions is standing next to it.

I have had mine for just over a month = Excellent

Tonight was my very first dance with the M&F brush. All I gotta say is I think I'm in love.

Your brush is a beauty Mel! I hope you enjoy it. I'm a happy buyer in the group buy and all this M&F talk has me itching to find that brush in the mailbox. Someday...

I have a M&F L7 Blonde Badger in Butterscotch too. It's actual sizes measured are 24.5mm w x 49.4 h. And thanks to my bud Brucered, it weighs in at 72.2 g! This brush literally jumps into my hand as I reach for my brushes. I need to capture this phenomenon on film!
These brushes are hard to beat. Congrats on your new and soon to be favorite!

As a noob in the brush world, what do you call the handle for the 4th brush? I have just acquired a M&F brush identical to that one in a butterscotch color which I absolutely love, but wasn't sure how to describe the brush at all.

Lovely collection by the way! I am incredibly jealous

And to answer the OP - I find my Blonde Badger to be incredible in performance, lathers like a dream. My handle is different so I can't speak on that of course

After getting my M&Fs I have not wanted any other brushes in almost 2 years, July 2011.
