what to do with vintage mint razors

So I've been bitten by RAD, and have found myself venturing out to antique stores over lunch. I've come across (and purchased) some pretty amazing razors already.

F-4 Toggle
F-2 Fatboy

Today I picked up a C-4 Tech that still has the paper "razor" inside the head. I don't even think it's ever been used. On the inside of the top of the razor head has some mirrored ink from the printing on the paper razor.

So now the question becomes, other than add these beauties to my collection, do I shave with the elusive Toggle and deflower this Tech?

What's a man to do?

I would say use it, keep the paper etc, and treat it carefully and then when you do put it on display it wont be much different from how you got it.

For that Toggle, there is only one thing to do. Box it up, and mail it to....

Actually, what he said ^.

Since the Toggle has used already by all means use it. The Tech, on the other hand, I would save since used Techs can be easily found that would be identical in every way for your use.

Oh Boy!! Here we go again.....

The Collectors vs The Users

Once you've used it, it's no longer Mint!
vs
You only go around once in life, enjoy it!

Find the appropriate box for theToggle along with the instructions, take that and the mint Tech and label them , store them in environmental conditions favorable for long term preservation. In 50 years when members here erect the National Museum for Vintage Gillettes Found at Swap Meets, Garage Sales and on Ebay, you can put yours up for candidacy for display but since display positions will be limited and competitive I can't guarantee we can show yours .

Come on, there just mass produced razors , shave with them and enjoy them. Its not a philosophical , social, political or existential dilemma , get some cream and aftershave man and have at it.:001_smile

I would use them. Have (and use) a vintage Rotbart 2000 myself. Nothing quite like it.

Oh, I shave with nothing but vintage razors. Some as old as 100 years and all over 60 years old. Many of them in minty looking condition. But, one in true unused, mint condition I would do nothing but display because it is easy enough to find another used one exactly like it to go around in life and enjoy!

You don't have a birth year razor you shave with at least occasionally? Just thinking out loud here... but 1958/'59 had some really good choices! (Did I get that right?)

1957. I was born after the cream of the crop were made. And no, the only TTO I use semi-regularly is a '48-'50 Aristocrat. A 1930 NEW DeLuxe, 1920 Bulldog, 1919 Standard Single Ring and a 1912 model Ever-Ready round out the most used.

If they're nothing but mass produced razors, how come they're so expensive and everyone wants one or two or three or ......

And again, if it weren't for collectors, no one could get their hands on a mint vintage Gillette razor today any way, much less shave with one.

But Gillettes were obviously mass production razors and they were largely marketed to sell razor blades.Neither King Gillette or the corporation could've imagined a community of collectors for their razors let alone $500 Fatboys.

I don't think collecting something means it has some high intrinsic value everyone will agree on and look at in awe. What do we think about the people who collect tumbleweeds or dryer lint? We don't get it, maybe they're touched? Its just too funny? Folks look at my Aftershave collection and think the same thing and they're in my family.

I think many of us shavers lack a sense a humor about the hobby, we get so wrapped up in its trivialities we inhibit our enjoyment of the stuff of the hobby. I don't think we should worship razors like religious icons I think they were invented for utility , we find them fun or beautiful little gizmos we should enjoy them not turn them into a dilemma.

damn dude, nice finds! aren't you in Minnesota? where the heck did you find these beauties? and more importantly, how much did you pay? i've searched high and low here in town and have found nothing of this sort anywhere. i'm jealous

I had a NIB tech once. I traded it to a collector for a perfect condition tech of the same model. I got a mint condition shaver without having to un-NIB the one I bought.
