What's new

What to do, what to do...

So I bought a pair of vintage brushes on the bay with plans of restoration. One clearly has been used and the knot is a little rough. Great candidate for a re-do. The other, seen below, looks to be nearly new and possibly never used. The brush seems like it hasn't been used and what misshapen-ness there is is probably from me screwing with it to see if I could figure out if it had been used. So, pull it out and re-knot it like planned or sterilize and give it a little polish and go to town???

P.S. forgot to add that my plan was to resto it and give it to a friend. he only has one lonely brush... can't have that.

so re-do them both, eh?

I would only because that is the only real purpose for me buying any of the vintage handles out there. I never really know how the brush was cared for or if the bristles will fall out into the lather when I shave. Because I love to do my own restorations and because I don't want to take any chances, I always re-knot every vintage brush that I find unless it is NOS in the box.

Best of luck to you no matter what you decide.

You can try it, but my guess is the bristles are too dried out to be of any use. I bought an old Ever Ready that was in great shape but completely useless for making lather.
