The GD 208 is a good SR. It hones up to a very acceptable shave-ready edge. When shaving with it, I found that its balance was rather blade heavy. This is due to the very lightweight scales. Most SR's when open 180° will balance near the pivot pin. The 208 balances near the shoulder.
My thought is that you really want the balance point half-way between the shoulder and pivot - that’s where you have your thumb and the 2 fingers doing most of the work? Does that sound right?

I don't think that there is a right or a wrong balance point. It is just a matter of what you prefer and are use to.

Most SR's balance within a few millimeters of the pivot pin, so that appears to be what people want and/or are use to.
