I broke out a hone-worn Kamijo this morning that I call "Little Beauty."
It has probably seen better days but it still shaves well. Did a rare face
lather (well rare for me) with Mäurer & Wirtz's best shave stick ever and
broke out a big 30 mm Maseto for the task. Talk about a wall of badger...

How do they come up with these names for razors? The Japanese Shell razor has the Shell gasoline logo! Intentional? Partnership? I have the same question for the Tanifuji Spalding.
The Japanese have long associated many well-known Western brands with being "cool" (kakoi in Japanese). This was particularly true in the sixties and seventies and continues through to today. "Spalding" and "Max-fli" of course were taken from the golf world and these were premium brand names four to five decades ago. In the West these days, many youth get Japanese kanji tattooed on their bodies with only a vague notion of what these characters mean...is this any different?

J. Chadwick wedge
A&E Peach & Cognac
Semogue 1250

I had been able to find no information on J. Chadwick on line. So I sent an e-mail to the archivist for the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire. The next day I got a response! So there is no record of a Freeman named J. Chadwick in the time period I suggested but there is a record of a James Chadwick becoming apprenticed in 1800. That does fit in my estimated mfg date of the razor, which I’d guess to be 1820 give or take a decade.

Very smooth, DFS 3-pass today. I did try the alternate grip suggested recently in another thread where the thumb is on side of the blade itself. Very stable, works for WTG and XTG, but for ATG I went back to my standard grip with thumb on the tang.

BTW the white dust all over everything is from some gold horn scales that I am currently working on. Guess I didn’t clean up as well as I had thought! :)

"Little Beauty" was tugging a little yesterday. No nicks, no razorburn,
just a wee bit of tugging. So, I put her aside for a honing session. Instead,
I broke out a Max-fli 3000, which I believe is a tiny bit hollower than my
2000. I am thinking of naming this one "Ugly Delicious" for its homely
plastic scales but wonderful Tanifuji grind/edge. While rooting around for
some soap, I pulled out Razorock's "The Stallion". I do not go much for artsian
soaps but Anthony's videos always makes me smile. I knew plenty of guys
like him back in Jersey and his enthusiasm is infectious. I'm normally a badger
brush fan, but with this croap I had to break out my Proraso Professional
(aka Omega #48). Great lather. Near BBS. Good times!
