First shave with another recent acquisition. Really happy with how the honing job went - but it helped that the razor was in really good shape bar a tiny chip right at the very end of the toe.
I decided to try a few different things. On the honing I decided to truncate my normal routine. So 2k, 5k, 8k, ILR then straight to linen and leather. Normally I would insert black Ark and pasted balsa afterwards, but I left it off, at least for today. Still a very comfortable shave, reasonably close for 2 passes (WTG, ATG).
For the shave itself I face lathered with the Asian Pear, usually I bowl lather, it went quite well.
It might have been @Steve56 's beautiful set of M500 Manaslu razors, it might have been the recent anniversary of the 1956 Japanese/Sherpa first ascent of the spirit mountain. Or it might be that I just love my first Japanese western straight, the 300 Manaslu graced by the mountain's portrait.

second shave DFS 2 pass (WTG-ATG)
Keeping it (fairly) local, with my Utica Knife and Razor Co. branded Red Point 917.
Pig brush once again fails miserably. Halfway through the first pass and it has somehow reduced the lather left on it to a wet film. Synthetic to the rescue! Stirling Island Man edging oil and soap performed as always.

Morning shave,I used this razor that I bought off Etsy. Its a thicker grind than I’m used to.It was such a smooth shave though, very quiet. The toe had a large chip out .I had to reshape it in a way that matched somewhat with what I’ve seen in other razors of the same era…First time doing that type of thing..It takes a great smooth edge.
Edge testing
Cape 35 Anniversary Edition
Black molted Escher
Wholly Kaw, Forgee Mania, soap and splash
Best results yet, she finally yielded some slurry
First try with slurry
30 laps to water only
Test results
Smooth, then smoother to sharp, then smooth,,
Still testing as only 4 shave off rock
Awesome shave and edge
Cheers
13/16 Hishakaku 500, named after a character in the 19t0s cult yakuza film and one of the best made Japanese razors that I’ve ever seen. The fit and finish is almost sword grade, and even though it’s 1/4 hollow, it’s difficult to hone because the bevels are so thin they’re difficult to see. Cream was SMN and a splash of Myrsol Agua Balsamica finished up a perfect shave.
