Just curious to see what everyone has to say about this topic. I've seen some similar threads on basenotes but none will a poll. Just wanted to see what size bottles everyone looks for when purchasing fragrances. Personally, I don't really have a preference. I have a pretty good mix of small and large bottles. When I'm looking for a new fragrance Id say 9/10 times it comes down to how much money I have/want to spend. While in most cases I can see the value in getting a bigger bottle, I just don't see the necessity. I cant really remember the last time I actually ran out of one of my fragrances. I simply have too many to choose from to run out of any singular one quickly. Even my go to's aren't running low yet. And when that day comes that I do run out, probably years down the road, I really doubt the first thing on my mind will me "oh why didn't I get the bigger bottle?" lol. But with that being said, I do probably have more 3.4's than 1.7's. Like I said it all comes down to how much money I can spend.

I voted bigger as I prefer 100ml size. Generally I find the difference in price between 50ml and 100ml makes a purchase of the larger bottle a better choice.

I prefer something around 30ml (or less) and really appreciate houses like Parfum de Nicolai who sell in that size. With a collection of 100 or so scents spread between bottles and 10ml+ decants along with continued sampling I wear most scents 3-4 times a year. At that rate, even 30ml lasts a long, long time.

Depends on the scent. In general, 30mL is more ideal but is not as cost effective (usually costs less for the bottle but more per mL of juice).

If it's a fragrance I know I'll wear often I generally go for the biggest size, which is usually the best value. I keep several empty decant spray bottles around so that I can easily make a travel-friendly bottle of my favorites.

I usually end up with 100 ml bottles because my collection is not huge so, while a 100 ml bottle will last me a long time, it isn't too much for me to use in a reasonable amount of time. 100 ml is almost always a much better deal per ml compared to smaller sizes as well. If I really like it, I'd go for something really big.... like a 275 ml flacon of Creed Silver Mountain Water, GIT or Bois du Portugal..... but those are some of my very favorites that I know I will not tire of over the years.

I've bought a few 100 ml ones, but I regret.

Since I have like 8 fragrances in 100ml format, I am not likely to empty them all within the next 10 coming years cuz I only use one or two sprays a day. So this is a waste : they'll perish before I'll even have the time to use half of them.

Gonna look into the smaller sizes : allows you to have more in your collection and you will most likely use them faster, thus making room for new ones!

It depends on the difference in price between the size differences. The way I look at it is I'm putting money down anyways. If there is enough value in getting a bigger bottle then that's what I aim for.

With a large collection, I always go for the smallest I can get. I get the whole "more for your money" thing with the bigger bottle, but there aren't many frags I've made a dent in.

Of late, I often go for an 8ml decant.

With this AD, one day you wake up and go, "Crap, when I die someone will have to deal with all this."

It depends. If I'm buying something for the first time I want to see how much I'm going to use it, so I'll go for 50ml. However, if it's something well-established in my arsenal, I may go for much larger sizes.

Generally, I get what is available. I prefer smaller but will go big on my "ole reliable" scents. Most places where I buy frags don't give me a size choice.

If it's something I wear regularly I'll buy the biggest bottle I can afford. If it's blind buy or maybe something I've just sampled at a department store and like I'll go small, just to make sure it's something I'm comfortable wearing.

Always the smallest possible available size unless I know I am going to blow through the stuff. If the latter, I will generally upsize, but that is a rare occasion.

I've only been at this 'seriously' for a few years, but people actually finish bottles - even 100ml? Before, I'd get bottles as gifts, wear them some and eventually throw out a 3/4 full bottle when I moved. Now I look at bottles I've owned for years and wear frequently - i. e. maybe 10 times a year - and there's barely any gone. I think I've finished 1 10ml decant.

Typically I go for the best value in simplified amount:price ratio. However, after reading these replies, pretty sure I'm moving to smaller bottles.
