I have done Cella, MdC, and Mikes, in terms of a good, simple, natural soap.

QCS or Mystic Waters, or other, and if so... What?

I am going to go with a soap that does not get the mention it deserves most times. QEDman. Charles' soaps are melt and pour base but are very good and the scents are to die for. The one version he has that is just about equal to the cold process soaps for shave and especially aftershave feel is Mocha Java. I rub the stick version over the face until liberally covered. Then use a hot soaked brush that has been shaken hard to get a lather started. After I have it to a somewhat thick paste like lather I add drops of water a few times and build the lather. Sounds long-ish but it really isn't. Well lathered Mocha Java is one SUPERB shave. You will know when you hit the spot because it will seem to turn to a pond of creamy lather all at once. A very nice shave indeed. Hey, it's a change up yeah?

Cheers, Todd

RazoRock 888 Eucalyptus - a real treat; clean woody scent, outrageous lather.
RazoRock R-160 - a re-engineered version of the discontinued classic P.160. Nice almond scent, outrageous lather.
Klar Kabinett - A powdery rose-scented soap that produces slick, thick, creamy lather (yes it's outrageous). 500 grams for about $20!!! I believe it is a barbershop favorite in Germany.

Smooth sailing, trust me.

I have both QCS and Mystic Water both are excellent products but I will go with QCS if I have to choose. Something to consider is ordering you a Shave Stick of La Toja, Valobra, and Speick from the Italian Barber. I do know that La Toja is on sale for $4.99 so that is a great buy and it gets high reviews from most everyone on this board.

QCS make wonderful croaps, I've never tried their harder soap. I'd get samples of Mystic Waters first if you go that route, for me it was some of the lousiest soap I've ever tried, it smelled absolutely wonderful though.

I'm am a huge Mike's fan but I haven't used QCS yet. I have used Mystic Water Wild Lavender, it is outstanding and the lather explodes.

can't got wrong with either QCS or MW.

they are both in my den and I have redorderd both in the past and will continue to do so.

i find QCS Cream more scuttle friendly and it takes heat well. MW on the other hand breaks down a bit if you use a hot scuttle.

i'm currently using a tub of MW Rosalimone and next on deck is my QCS GIT....

that didn't help much, but hopefully will ease your mind knowing you can't go wrong with either of them.

I think QCS outperforms my 4 Razorock Artisans and my Cella; since it's arrived, I've only used the RR and Cella as a reference point, and I keep going back to the QCS. Plus it smells outrageously good. I can't recommend it enough.

I have tried both, and found MW impossible to lather. QCS on the other hand, was great the first time I used it. Both have amazing scents. If we're talking artisans, you absolutely have to include Mike's as well. Can be hard to lather for some, but if you are one of the chosen, it's outstanding. The same would go for MW, I guess I'm just not one of the chosen.:crying:

For now, go with the QCS. It's a pretty safe bet that you will be able to lather it right. Try the soaps generally considered finicky later.
