What's new

What should I do? Need suggestions please...

I will be without my only brush, Rooney 1/1, for the next week or so.

It is being sent in for exchange due to excessive shedding.

During that time I am pondering one of the following options:

1. Pick up a VDH like boar brush from Wholefoods. It is about $10.

2. Pick up brushless shave cream like KMF or Burt's Bees Wax from Wholefoods.

3. Use my existing shave sticks to rub lather on my face with my hands. I have an unopened tube of Proraso... but, one time I tried using it as a preshave prep by applying it to my face directly and it was too strong.

4. Other ideas or suggestions?

I am not looking to break the $10 price point. Just need an interim fix till my replacement brush arrives... (also, I don't want to find anything that might trigger another case of AD)

Thanks

For a week?

I'd get some KMF or Real Shaving Company cream and apply it brushless. Works pretty well.

Another option would be to use any other cream you already have on hand, such as Trumper's or T&H, and apply it brushless. Proraso works that way, too, but if you didn't like it, don't use it.

The VDH boar wouldn't even be broken in before your brush came back, so I think that's a waste of money.

I agree. The VDH isn't sorth it just for the week. I like the Real Shaving Co. is nice stuff.

On the other hand, it might be worthwhile to have a spare brush for travel, etc. not to mention that you'd find the variety fun for a change sometime.

I bought my $5 Burma-Shave brush on a whim for a trip, mainly to avoid damaging or leaving behind my badger brush and discovered that it was actually more fun.

Also, with two brushes you can alternate days, ensuring that each one has the chance to dry out more thoroughly.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I hadn't even thought about the break in period for a boar brush as I have never used one before.

I was reading some great reviews on Creamo-Cream. I think I will order a tube of that. West Coast Shaving has shipped all my orders so fast, that it's possible it could be here tomorrow... of course with my luck it will be the one time there is some kind of mix up and I won't get it for a month:001_rolle

I recently got rid of all my creams and cream samples and have switched to soaps full time. I have never tried a cream brushless, but this one sounds like it might be a winner.

I agree. Get the VdH boar and use it for a while. It's good to have as a spare anyway, and it should cost less than $10.

Which vendor asked you to return your brush before sending you a replacement? I had a shedding Rooney and it was replaced by the vendor immediately. I returned the shedder only after I received the new one.

Yeah it should. I like Whole Foods stores, but on products that aren't specific to their niche they get expensive. Walmart and Rite-aid sell the entire VDH kit -brush, bowl, soap- for about $7.

The vendor was Vintage Blades LLC. They sent me an RMA and said that they would send out a replacement as soon as they received the original.

Is this not standard practice?

You only have one brush?!?!?!?!?!?

LOL. Yup. I have had three total.

1. Col. Conk Pure Badger
2. Shavemac 23mm Silvertip
3. Rooney 1/1 Super

I sold the first one as part of a starter kit. Sold the shavemac because it seemed more of a cream brush, and have switched to soaps.

The Rooney is perfect. I don't even feel the need for another brush... except for now. :mad3:

I may get another one someday, but honestly, the brush was the one thing I was most content about.

I have the Omega boar brush and it works pretty well. And it only cost $12 so I will take when I travel because if my luggage gets lost I won't really mind that much. Sounds like you could use the VDH.:thumbup1:
