What Shavette / Barber Razor Did You Use Today?

IMG_4131.JPG

Razor: Sedef Shavette
Blade: Treet Carbon Steel (Half Blade, 1st use)
Brush: Omega 48
Cream: Proraso Blue
Alum: Nice Cool
Aftershave: Nelum Sandalwood

Second shavette shave, slightly spottier than last but still good result. Getting the hang of the angle, though I can see how the narrowness and thinness of the Sedef can make it a little more difficult. Wanted to try a carbon steel blade, was hoping that it might make it feel closer to an actual straight razor, but I’m not sure, might be a bit too mild.

Darn near BBS shave today with the Captain blade in the Captain clone. The aftershave did reveal 2 weepers which I was completely unaware of prior to that, but otherwise gave very little feedback given how close the shave is. Some further thoughts:

1) Current La Toja stick is waaaaay better than the original tallow -> veggie formulation from the 2010s. It doesn't smell the same anymore, but the performance is great. I hope they keep it in production.

2) The 2nd shave on the Captain blade was great. It still feels sharper than a Schick, but has smoothed out a little. Still not as smooth as a Schick, but I can handle the trade off. Today the Captain gave me the kind of "effortless wiping away stubble" experience that I want from a blade, and it's probably the closest to that experience that any AC blade has come for me. I definitely like it. I do have about 100 Schicks in the stash now and still think they are a big step up from the Feather options, but I can see myself picking up more of these too just for the extra edge in sharpness.

3) I am starting to really like the cheapo Captain clone. If I ever buy another AC razor (big if) I might go for the gen-oo-ine Captain.

4) Finally summer arrives in the South of England and I get to use the Floid Vigoroso for its hefty menthol kick. Love it!

Getting the hang of the angle, though I can see how the narrowness and thinness of the Sedef can make it a little more difficult

Hopefully once you get used to it you will find this an advantage - it allows you to adopt a really shallow angle for ATG passes, so the shave is super mild, yet still super efficient. I really like the Sedef / Ali Byikli types but they do take quite a bit of getting used to. Still, an entire country of Turkish barbers can't be wrong, right? :biggrin1:

Wednesday Morning Walkabout

Well the cheap Wood Handle Kamisori won out - it just feels better than the Feather SS.

Blade: Kai ProTouch MG (7X)

I moved the Captain blade into the Feather SR today. Great shave. No blood. No drama. Very nearly BBS.

On shave 3, I would say the Captain has smoothed out such that it feels similar to a Schick. I will probably do one or two more shaves from it, then call it quits. Of course, I am now tempted to start a fresh Schick for more back to back comparisons, but we will see. I have other razors I want to use too.

I got a Hair shaper scraper razor. It was tiny and flimsy. It came with some things that had to be blades . Those were no blades. At least not for shaving.

So I had lather ready after a stroke with thing. So a I took out Gytche shavette with Cloud slim A77 blade. And did a face and head shave. What a enjoyable activity !
I can confirm that this is a good razor hefty (75g) razor. Nothing to complain!

Prep: Warm shower: Stirling Sheep bar soap
Pre: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm SHD 2-Band Badger bulb knot with Maggard Razors sky blue 25mm handle
Lather: Sudsy Soapery Unscented Tallow Shaving Soap
Load/Lather Bowl: HC&C shave bowl (straight walled)

Razor: Kai Kasho Woody
Blade: Kai Captain Titan ProTouch MG (D6)

Post: Stirling witch hazel, PAA Mysterium Serum

This was my first shave with the Kai Kasho Woody. I liked that I didn't have to change my normal straight razor angle. I liked that I could use this razor in a kamisori mode going diagonal NE-SW in the right upper cheek area without fear of insertion weepers. I was impressed that I could do the touch ups with this razor instead of having to switch to an injector or DE razor. This was probably the closest, most comfortable AC barber razor shave I have ever had. I had a few nicks and some razor burn, but for a first shave with a new barber razor, I was very impressed. I look forward to more shaves with this razor.

Nice relaxing Sunday morning shave.

Drama free 2 passes plus touch ups shave. DFS+. Kismet blade is still showing no sign of slowing down yet. As soon as it shows of dropping off I'll not push it, and just change it for a new one.

This was a quick two-pass shave due to very tight time constraints - 1st pass with the Tedalus Essence; 2nd pass with the Alpha Spirit. This was my first shave in a while with the Tedalus. It never grows old! Although not a shavette, IMO props are also due to the Alpha Spirit. I like it better with every shave.
