what shave gear should i take to uni?

Hey, I'm heading off to uni this Sunday and I'm having trouble deciding which troops to leave behind.

I have narrowed down to:
- two soaps
- two creams
- plenty of DE and SE blades
- a shave stick
- pre shave oil
- a pre and post shave Gillette set
- alum block and styptic pencil
- nivea balm
- two aftershaves

Is this too much? I have an en-suite room so I don't have to worry about sharing bathroom space.

I now need to narrow down razors. My thoughts are:
- a mild razor (3 piece)
- an aggressive razor (3 piece)
- a mildish tto
- a SE

I'm thinking that with those 4 I will have enough to carry out whatever sort of shave I feel like.

Not if you don't have to share bathroom space it isn't. IMO. You've got a great mini den going it sounds like. bring whatever you have space for and what ever will make your uni life more pleasurable.

If you are in a dorm, I would only take what I would not be heartbroken if it were lost. I would also have some place to lock your stuff up or it may not be your stuff for long. If you are in an apartment, security should not be much of an issue.

Thanks for your responses, I have a room and bathroom to myself solike you say, security and space aren't really an issue.
The problem I'm faced with is picking my favourite soaps/creams/razors etc. I'm worried I'll get there and think damn, wish I brought (...?) Haha

Depending on where you're going you may not have a lot of time left over to shave...

Didn't do much "recreational" shaving at Mudd. Much better at UC and State.

I think is a good minimal set up for us. I would be tempted to take as much as possible, but moving around with a lot of stuff can be a pain. Will you be leaving most of your stuff at home then? You could always bring more things if you miss something, provided you are near enough.

When i went to uni i spent a lot more time there than i did at home - so ended up with all my stuff there and then took bare essentials home with me when i went back.

Though I hadn't discovered the joys of wet shaving until I'd left

Great advice. You don't want to miss out on one of the best parts of college! Maybe consider bringing a lava Lamp, and a Barry white cd ;-)

Definitely a straight, or a shavette, so you can do the skyfall shave thing. Bloody good way to earn respect too. I'm jealous already.

I decided against a straight because until now my honing attempts have been unsuccessful and I can't afford all the stones I need.. a shavette could work though....
