What razor maintenance do you do and when?

HI all, After reading the restoration stuff and seeing the sad state of the razors there I do not want mine to turn in to that. I was wondering on the types of maintenance you do to your razors? What cleaning items do I use? Also when, weekly monthly? Thank you for your time.

I use a soft tooth brush when I notice soap scum. I have so many razors that it is about once every year or more.

I usually just run the razor under warm tap water and rinse it after my shave and put it on the dresser. After a few uses..... or when I start noticing soap scum, I will take a soft toothbrush and scrub it with toothpaste or hand soap and rinse it off with hot water.... then dry it with a towel. Good as new.

Soap and water and a toothbrush when I notice soapscum is really building up. I usually clean them when I swap blades out. With an injector razor I clean just before I swap out the blade because you never want to load an empty injector razor because the blade will drag on the blade stops and will dull it.

For the three piece razors, i take them apart after i shave. Run them in hot water and then dry them and polish them off with a microfiber cloth.

For the TTO's, i open them and then take a very small amount of dishwashing liquid and scrub under hot water with a toothbrush after i shave.

Doesn't take long, maybe 5 minutes. That way all my razors are always clean.

I rinse after every shave, then hit them with Scrubbing Bubbles and a toothbrush when I change the blade.

Mostly just rinse them in hot water after shaving. If needed, I clean the scum off the head when I change blades. Usually just wipe it off with a wash cloth. We have pretty soft water.

I dry them with a paper towel. I take 3 piece razors all the way down and wipe each piece, plus the blade. TTOs I open, remove the blade, and dry them both off. I do this after every shave.

Does the clay in certain soaps, like Mike's Handmade, affect the finish of Zamac pot metal? That would be a bummah.

Like others, I use a soft toothbrush and mild soap when there's buildup. For me, that's every 1-3 blade changes. Since getting that razors I use now, I haven't had to polish them once since the initial cleaning when I got them off eBay.

I take my Weber apart after every shave. I rinse all the parts then dry them. The blade I pat dry, lightly. All this is probably not completely necessary, but it has become part of my ritual.

a quick rinse and pat dry after every shave. When I'm really bored or about every few months i'll take a toothbrush and toothpaste to them.

Every blade change I wipe it down with alcohol to remove soap scum and rinse it under hot water for about 30 seconds to get the metal nice and hot. I then lay it on a towel and let the water evaporate from the hot parts. Once dry, I lube the threads with some shaving soap (dry), install blade and re-assemble.

I do the same as Mick, plus give the TTO and/or adjustment mechanisms a few drops of mineral oil now and then. My vintage razors should last for several lifetimes at this rate.
