Bar handle Long Comb New. Looks like the "Red and Black" set. $20 is a a fine price for it. One would generally pay around that (or more) for one without a box, so the box is a bonus, even though it's rough.

Looks like another bar-handle long-comb NEW, with a nice case!

The NEW razors were manufactured during some very difficult times for the American economy as well as Gillette. America was in the middle of the Great Depression, and Gillette was just coming out of a very bitter and acrimonious legal situation versus the Auto-Strop company regarding alleged patent infringements.

Gillette's new ownership (majority stockholder Henry Gaisman of Auto-Strop) discontinued the production of truly premium razors. The razors sold as "premium" models were simply common NEW razors packaged in upscale cases with blade banks . . . such as the two you have pictured in this thread.

Since cases may have survived without razors, and razors without cases, it is hard at this point to prove that a given razor and case were together from "day one" . . . but both of these sets did contain bar-handle long-comb NEW razors . . . so we accept these as "genuine" examples.

NEW razors, cased or not, were all plated with a thin gold wash with no underlying nickel plating . . . therefore, they were subject to premature plating loss. Any NEW found today with original plating intact is a real find. Most of them have substantial plating loss, and many are found completely de-plated down to their brass and copper components.

Your Red and Black looks like it has quite a bit of its original gold wash still intact . . . but the other one (from the picture) looks like it may have a "naked" cap . . .

Either way, the Gillette NEW razors are well-regarded as smooth and capable shavers. Enjoy!!

IIRC the NEW had 3 handle styles, the regular bar style, the thick bar(the Red/Black) and the ball handle so you do actually have 2 NEWs there and no frankenrazor.
