1910 Gillette Single Ring / Vintage Wilkinson Sword (3) - aborted Rolls shave (I didn't get the bevel set properly and while it shaved, it wasn't really shaving) so I grabbed my "new to me" Single Ring. This razor no doubt had a beautiful patina, but the previous owner decided to "shine it up!" with what looked to be a scotch brite pad and comet because they scratched the living crap out of the finish. Not really seeing much brassing, I figured that "the silver plate was still strong with this one." I used the boiling water/baking soda/tin foil method to remove the remaining patina, and with the stark dark and light contrast gone, it took on a satin appearance, but the scratches are still there. Considering the abuse it took, the razor must have had a very good plating job back in the day, and or saw very little use because there aren't any cracks in the handle. Did get a good, CCC, bloodless Shave.
