I used some Clear Aloe Vera gel just a Almond size dab on the beard area for every shave if I remember. Great moisturizer IMO.

Shower, hot wet washcloth face/beard soak. For nearly 60 years water soak has worked for me. But one of these days I'll have to spoil myself and try a pre-shave product but don't know witch one.
