What's new

What new DE? Pils? Feather?

My girlfriend has taken my futur hostage and now I need some new DE love. I used the futur at around a 3 setting give or take with feather blades with quite good luck. I am looking buying the stainless pils or new stainless feather. What one would be the best match? Thank you so much for your responses, and long live wet shaving. I look forward to posing more often.

I think if I was going to buy one of the two (I'll probably end up with both one day anyway ), I'd be buying a Pils.

The Feather has been attributed to be a little less aggressive than the PILS. So, your choice should be tempered by what you prefer in a razor.

I own both the Futur and the Feather. I like the Futur since it has a long handle, with the handy indent for increased grip.

The Feather is bar none the best razor I have used to date. I was considering a Pils, but the deal breaker for me is the fact that the handle is not knurled. The Feather handle is well-knurled for excellent grip. The Futur handle is not knurled, neither is the Pils (both are matte finish), but the Futur has the contoured handle to make the grip when wet, better.

The Feather gives BBS shaves for me so far without really trying. I haven't had the Feather long enough to give a long-term result opinion, but I can't think of a better DE razor.

Good luck in your choice, either will doubtless suit you very well.

Thanks for your replys. It seems split down the middle. What one do you think will match my aggressiveness of 3 with a feather on the futur? I just love the way the pils looks but want what is best. Thanks!

Having used the Futur and Feather, I would say that the Futur set at 3 would always be more aggressive. For me anyways.

I own both - both are beautiful, and the quality of build for both is top notch. In addition, both will give you BBS shaves - however, if you want a mild shaver and don't mind working a little bit for that BBS, get the Feather (of the two, it's the razor you'd feel most comfortable allowing SWMBO to use).

On the other hand, if you like your shaver to have some heft and your technique is pretty good (it's a little aggressive, but it's no Slant), get the Pils (and this is the one you will never want to share with SWMBO) -

Me, I like the Feather, but I love the Pils - best razor I've ever owned :thumbup1: To me it just feels right -
(I have also owned the Merkur Slant - too aggressive - and the DE89L - nice, performs well, but not enough heft to my liking).

Just my humble opinion -

by the way, if you do get the Pils, and if you have the extra cash to spend, the matching holder for the Pils is very nice, they go together well - however, if you get the Deluxe version of the Feather, be aware that the holder does not match the razor (which is dumb on Feathers part, imho) -

Both!

I picked up the Pils and Feather SS earlier this year and love both of them. I use the Feather slightly more often, but the Pils is an excellent razor, too.

Besides, you need two new razors - one for you and one for the significant other.

There is nothing special about the Feather than the material it was made from. The design isn't anything other than a Tech clone with a different handle.

The Pils OTOH is quite an original piece... grab that one. You'll be glad you did.

If you just want a stainless steel razor or one with heft, get one of the custom razor manufacturers out there to do it for you and save $70-80 or so.
