What nagura is this?

Hey guys,

I purchased this nagura from japanwoodworker many years ago and was wondering where I could use it if at all during my hone progression. I'm using water stones up to 12K nanawa then I switch to Ozuku Asagi and Tomo. I'm wondering if I can use this before the Tomo. I know, I've seen several links on this site to pages that have the nagura printing on them, but I don't see anything that matches up exactly with the symbols on this stone. Thanks in advance, I know someone on this site will recognize it in a heart beat.

I've seen those same stamps on a nagura a new jack showed me at a meet a while back. He said he was told that it was Mejiro but IMO, it was more Botan than anything else, decent quality. I remember him telling me he paid under $20 for it, with that in mind it was a good buy. I'll send him a text and try and find out where he got it from.

Thanks Bayamontate, here's a link to the product on their site. http://www.japanwoodworker.com/product.asp?s=JapanWoodworker&pf_id=15.576.48&dept_id=13118

I think the only way to be sure is to experiment with it to see where it falls grit wise.

The Made in Japan stamp is new. The thing is that you don't what you're going to get, with Asano and Mikawa Shiro stamped stuff you're going to something in the ballpark of their designation, not always perfect but at least in the ballpark. You have to experiment with all of them, many times, or example, Mejiro and Tenyjou are interchangeable despite however they are stamped.

Mikawa is where all naguras come from, Asano are the ones the are certified to be the correct strata and quality, anything else is money to the wind.

Not all Nagura comes from Mikawa.
Not all Asano stamped Nagura is perfect and without issue.
A lot of unstamped non-Asano Nagura is perfectly fine and in some cases a better deal.

Mikawa Shiro nagura are .... on second thought it appears experimentation, alternate points of view and the exchange of ideas are not the order of the day, forget it.
