Did Gillette make a short handle version of the single ring? appears to be gillette, and the date code on the top part of the razor has C195017. i took a picture of another one of my single rings for comparison.. whats the deal?

I don't think it's a Gillette, at least some it or a mix of different Gillette parts. The cap doesn't seem to fit right and the blade positioning posts look shorter then they should be. Is the cap tight? It actually looks like somebody shortened the handle of a genuine Single Ring, maybe to get rid of a crack and then exchanged the cap with a post 1920 thicker version and the shorter screw. I'll try that on one of my SR. (the cap that is).

yep, upon closer review under magnification i can see the telltale marks made from the cut. it isnt perfectly straight either...never understood why people do such stupid things!
