What is this black stuff by the pegs?

I’ve cleaned and polished this razor but can’t get this off? Would this be plate loss or some sort of gunk? Also I know many Gillete heads are brass so don’t rust, would that apply to all siperspeeds, flair tips, fatboy, and slims? Thank you.

Brass wearing off maybe. If you’ve tried and can’t get it off then I wouldn’t worry much about it.

If it really worries you, try the old round pointy toothpick trick. Dry for a start so you can either feel a lump or a divot to determine if its in the metal or on the metal, I would use a rather large sewing needle or similar pointy object but I don't do things by halves, all in!

If it's in the metal or on the metal, your chosen polish may polish it with the use of the point of the above mentioned toothpick? or if it is still stuck there, careful paring off with a sewing needle?

Rust from blades can be transferred to razors as a stain, but the razors themselves do not rust. Brass, Copper, Aloominum, Pot Metal [zamak] will however corrode in varying degrees in contact with various substances over time.[gratuitous use of 'vary' substituted for unknown]
