What is the Most LUXURIOUS Cream/Soap?

What, in your opinion, is the most luxurious cream or soap that you have tried? By luxurious, I mean the soap or cream you wait all week to really indulge yourself with on the weekend or on vacation. It is not your daily work horse, nor does it offer the best bang for the buck. It is the cream or soap you save until you have time for that 1 hour shave. It is the cream or soap you savor. It cushions, it smells out of this world, and it leaves you feeling like you just had one the most indulgent shaves of your wet shaving life. It is the cream or soap you think about before falling asleep at night.

For me, the most luxurious cream has been Acqua di Parma in the tub. All I have of it is a sample, which has lasted for some while, in spite of the fact that although it's said you can use less than usual, I use a generous amount.

Tabac, with all the Tab-accesories.

L'Occitane CADE SS. Even though it is not the most expensive (the tub is expensive -- although I hear it is now on sale cheap -- but the soap is only $10) and even though I also sometimes use it during the week, it is my overall favorite, I think, at this moment in time.

QED soap. I've tried Acqua di Parma, Santa Maria Novells, Penhaligon's (cream and soap), and I find that none of them hold a candle to QED. YMMV.

I'm a fan of luxurious.

But I'm also a fan of the stalwart hero. Which isn't necessarily luxurious. Just consistently great.

Oddly enough, I think I'd say Pen's Blenheim Bouquet cream in the fancy pants jar. Not because it's my favorite, or works the best for me. Honestly, I think several creams and soaps perform better. I find the BB pretty darn good...but the scent, IMO, is really something special. I don't shave with it but for every so often. Every time, though, is a memorable experience. Even if I only used it once a year I could never get rid of this stuff. Maybe that's why I think it's so luxurious--because there are creams/soaps that are (IMO) better, and much cheaper. But nothing with quite the same delivery: decadence in a silver-lidded jar. :001_tongu

With the caveat that I haven't used a brazillion soaps, the shave I look forward to (Sunday, four passes & a touch up, Kyle's full prep plus) is with Mitchell's Wool Fat.

I love the smell. My lather is so lush I want to put it on a lemon pie. The cushion is out of this world & the slickness is great. And it leaves my skin feeling twenty years younger--supple and taut, and so moisturized even an alcohol-based AS can't dry it out.

(For comparison: my other soaps now are Tabac, Pre de Provence, and Ogallala Bay Rum. I've also used Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad, Williams, DR Harris Arlington, and Proraso).

I definetely look forward to my weekend-shave with Santa Maria Novella Crema da Barba.

During the week I use Proraso soap.

Happy shaving!

I'll also have to vote for the Penhaligon's creams. If I hadn't gotten samples from VintageBlades, I'd never have tried them. Their edge in "luxuriousness" is slight, though, and definitely not worth the massive upcharge, IMHO.

I just ordered a sample of this on Saturday. I can't wait for it to get here.
